C(olorado)U President Raises Mental Health “Awareness” in Defiance of Mental Health Facts

Yesterday the president of the University of Missouri resigned because student pressure and a hunger striker and some faculty in the football team all asked for the president's resignation. The University of Missouri has a long-standing history of racism. Over five years ago one of the students from UM held an open mic in Columbia, Missouri that our organization hosted. Her poem was about racism.

Similarly, in our community, the University of Colorado has a long history of discrimination against people with lived experience of recovery from mental health labels. One Colorado advocate has made attempts for over 20 years to interact successfully with a faculty member who was a leader in the mental health community. Several of the CU faculty members are leaders in disease-mongering, or causing people to have false positive mental health diagnoses. This is what happens when clinical services are emphasized and recovery is unheard of.

My email to the CU president explains the research behind these problems and explains why it is important to address this issue.

From Robert Whitaker's blog site. He is a very active advocate defending those abused by the "mental health" complex and its profiteers. My perception is that this site is a source of conservative thought on mental health and freedom of the mind that may interest FReepers.

Pop died when i was 15. mom had a breakdown, brother couldn’t handle it and was kind of cruel(apologized later). So it led to a few issues by 18. (sounds like country music song :))

saw a GREAT italian psychiatrist in manhattan and got better (with only xanax for anxiety,NO antidepressants) so i stopped going. he said i wasn’t ready. he was right. So I went back and he helped me again and I was good to go.

He was down to earth and said sensible things.

BIGGEST mistake of my life, i had some minor depression again (the depression stemmed from things within my control and was mostly a copout)

Since then, I have taken THOUSANDS of antidepressant pills with no noticeable effect one way or the other. if it helps you or yours, i am happy.

As for me, i have good days, weeks and years, and bad of the same. Sounds a lot like life.

(incidentally, 95 percent of severe depressions go away without treatment after 5 years)

NOW anti psychotics ALONG with antidepressants will make all your woes go away.

AND NOW neurontin (for seizures) is used off label as an antidepressant.

soon Blood pressure medication will be used as one. (i actually think one might be)

Based on studies conducted by the companies that sell these pills AND that paid fines for covering up the failed tests.

Stay in shape, meet a babe, have a good family and friends, is my advice.

One note of personal achievement, NO MATTER how low i felt, and it was pretty low sometimes, I NEVER missed work because of it.

If that was all i could do at that particular time, that’s all i did. Then when i felt better, i did everything again.

abuse of the system is rampant today.

This was in NO WAY meant to disparage those that get or got help from the meds. And Depression is a silly word for an unwarranted COMPLETE lack of hope. It is dangerous and a different word should be used.

But it can and does resolve, even without 5000 pills.

I would like a reliable reference to this, if you have it.

It doesn’t mean much without a reference, and I KNOW I read it in reliable publication, but like many facts in the head, the actual time you first learned a fact is the hard part to remember.

Like the first time I read cars can have more than 8 cylinders :) Was a reliable magazine but i have NO IDEA what it was!

But I shall do my best or will post that I cannot back up the statement!!

Research suggests that if people do not seek treatment for depression (which has lasted for at least two weeks):

I am not contesting you: I really want to find about people who very, very sad. I’ve been there and found that chemistry is not an answer to a spiritual problem.

It still bothers me when they have to say that they THINK this is how it helps
