McConnell may put immigration on agenda amid GOP fight (Ted's Kate's Law)
Houston Chronicle ^ | 11/13/15 | Erica Werner

Posted on 11/13/2015 11:31:44 AM PST by VinL

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has informed Democrats he may schedule a vote next week on a hard-line immigration bill pushed by Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, a GOP candidate for president.

The move could bring debate over immigration to the Senate floor just as it flares on the presidential campaign trail. Cruz has been sparring with Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, another GOP hopeful.

The bill is called Kate's Law for the woman shot in San Francisco by an immigrant illegally in the country. It would increase penalties for re-entering the country illegally.

McConnell has been under conservative pressure to bring it to a vote. But the move could give a platform to Cruz, with whom McConnell has sparred.

Democratic aides spoke anonymously to disclose McConnell's potential plans.

Related-- some on the Board have contested that Ted Cruz's amendment to the Gang of Eight Amnesty Bill regarding citizenship was not a "poison pill"-- The evidence that it was is that both Jeff Sessions and Mike Lee, (obviously opposed to legalizing illegals) voted FOR it.

So the Houston Chronicle considers a bill that might prevent future Kate Steinle-type murders to be a “hard-line” immigration bill. Got it.

The Gang of 8 bill passed the Senate easily 68 to 32, picking up all Democrats and 14 Republicans. . The amendment never had a chance. Purely symbolic. It is time we stop this process charade.

It’s a setup and Cruz already knows it.

I’m sensing desperation from the Uniparty. This may be their attempt to make it look like they are doing something about dhimmigration in order to dilute or defuse the Trump/Cruz message.

A number of the folks who are doing the “contesting” are doing it as part of their anti-Cruz jihad.

O’Reilly and FNC are putting heat on McConnell to have an up/down vote on Kates Law, BOR has sworn many times he will not relent until the vote happens. So McConnell will give him what he wants, and if by some miracle it passes he knows Obama will veto it and embarrass Cruz in the process.

Will McConnell attach it to another sinker bill, like last time? Knowing it won’t have a snowball’s chance in you know where? Hopefully not.

The proof is in the pudding. All I could find on this were “anonymous sources”, so not sure what tricks Midge might pull, this time.

Thank goodness Trump, O’Reilly (credit where it’s due) and Cruz brought this to the forefront. Let’s see what Midge can do.

It doesn’t matter what McConnell does now, he needs to go. He’s a liar and schemer, and a tool of the US Chamber of Commerce.

What McConnell joined in with in Mississippi last year is unforgivable. He should be prosecuted for his role in the fraud committed.

And the 28 million that he has amassed while in office should be clawed back before he’s removed from Congress without pay or pension.

He can raise turkeys in Kentucky or sit on a porch and wait for his social security check.

The “poison pill” was never inserted into the bill nor did it ever have a chance. The bill passed easily thru the Senate 68 to 32. Cruz claimed that if the “poison bill” were included, the Gang of 8 bill would pass easily thru the House. If that happened, we would have tripled legal immigration over the next decade to 30 million and we would have increased H-1B visas by 500%. Some poison pill.

Yeah, it’s pointless to argue with them...every one of them is a Trump supporter...The entire idea of conservatives supporting Trump is some sort of mental issue...methinks...

It has to be because they are not critically thinking...they are just reacting to the immigration play.

Since Cruz is the other candidate for conservatives, (there are no others) he becomes the enemy of Trump, therefore the enemy of his supporters.

I suspect we may see some change in that by the time primaries start, but it may not happen at all. If it continues in this way and Trump gets the nomination, I really don’t yet know what I will do. I just can’t support him and my allegiance to the party has been broken for some time.

It’s just another freekin election where I have no candidate. I suppose I should be accustomed to it, but prior to this election I made a pledge to myself that I would no longer tow the line with the RNC.

No....the reason for the amendment was to flush out the gang of eight who did not support it. The only change made by the amendment was that the Border had to be sealed before anything else happened. The gang of 8 opposed it and Cruz proved beyond a doubt that all they cared about was amnesty.

Cruz knew what would happen. It was ploy to expose the real reason for the bill.

Thankfully the bill died....

But part of the reason it died, maybe the only reason, was that it was exposed for what it was. “Amnesty”

Cruz helped to do that....as he has done on other issues..

I voted libertarian in the last 3 elections...I couldn’t believe how good it felt to not “hold my nose” at the polling place.
Btw...I live in Idaho so my electors were going to the Republican no matter what I did. I realize it’s not as easy for swing state residents.

Here is what amendment (Cruz 5) contained in Cruz own words. He had another amendment as well

Sen. Cruz Amendment to Immigration Legislation to Increase H-1B Visas

Cruz knew what would happen. It was ploy to expose the real reason for the bill.

The bill passed the Senate. Everyone knew this was an amnesty bill. And Cruz did not address the amnesty portion of the bill. Any legislation that allows the lawbreakers to stay and work here, the object of their crimes, is amnesty. Citizenship is just the cherry on top. Legalization will cost at least $6.3 trillion if there are only 12 million here.

You said it!

Turtle Head will have nothing much to do with Kate’s Law, until it is pecked to death or is reshaped to finally deliver some kind of a bonus to the Chamber of Commerce COMPLEX guys, who sit in the main lobby of the Senate 24/7 showing Turtle Head how to “rule” and to lean on opponents.

This is a war between Trump and the Establishment to run a hurry up offense to set our field. Trump is the gladiator trying to take down Carson for the rest of our pretty boys and to reset the field and to kill the GOP splitter strategy— to move on to four, or better yet, three more viable contenders.

Turtle Head sees a couple of things. He sees TRUMP’s TIMING, and that TRUMP is making moves to set the field, and he sees Cruz moving from the outside now.

Turtle Head is awake to the timing and so, he wants to set the field too, only with Cruz out of it, or back in the small pack with permanently single digit poll numbers.

If this Houston story is correct, it reports an immigration bill that will look just like Cruz proposed, on video, in his own words, that would legalize the illegals here, but short of citizenship. The GOP rope for Cruz is now being strung up, in case it works.

Rubio claims, against Cruz, that the catch is that judicially speaking that citizenship could not be long denied to legalized illegals, as Cruz proposed.

Kabar, I totally forgot to mention that Cruz’s amendment also stripped out the provisions for achieving citizenship in the gang’s amnesty bill. (essentially the amnesty part of it)

There was no way that the gang was going to support it, as well as their entire group, repubs and dems.

As I said, it was a ploy. It was part of the fight.
