U.K. citizen claims his gun rights are being deprived (HI)

A United Kingdom citizen who is a legal permanent resident of the United States alleges in a lawsuit that the Honolulu Police Department discriminates against non-U.S. citizens by making it difficult for them to obtain firearm permits.

Hawaii only granted permits to U.S. citizens until a federal judge in Honolulu last year ruled that's unconstitutional.

The department is trying to get around that ruling by verbally requiring those with green cards to obtain additional clearance from their countries of citizenship, according to the lawsuit filed last week in federal court in Honolulu.

Go back to England, get your firearm permit there.

I disagree. This guy is (apparently) here quite legally, and wants to live here permanently (hence the green card). He is, in short, one of the good ones. Doesn’t even have to learn English (we should learn from him). Why doesn’t he, who has followed all of our rules, have the right to defend himself and his family? Why are you falling in behind the opinion of a left-leaning government?

Remember those Korean business owners on the roofs of their stores with assault rifles during the LA riots.

They have just as much right to self defense and anyone.

You're right, of course - and yet... The same thing was once true for college tuition, driver's licenses, food stamps, Social Security, etc. Illegals were "of course" excluded. And now, today...

“Why doesn’t he, who has followed all of our rules, have the right to defend himself and his family?”

Because he lives in Hawaii

Piers Morgan has convinced me that all British people need to STFU about everything, all the time.

But regarding this particular guy:
He seems to be in the country legally, so you gotta admire his interest in following our laws.
Maybe he didn’t even come in on an H1B and steal an Americans job, who knows.
And he appears to be a human being. Human beings have a God given right to defend themselves and human being use tools. So, a human being has the right to have and use tools to defend himself and Hawaii has no right to stop him.
It’s sad really. This guy probably spent quite a few years trying to come to America, thinking “I’ll be an American and I can be free” only to find out that Hawaii isn’t actually free.

The 'Maui News' doesn't seem to know that there are no United Kingdom Citizens. They are all Subjects.

Letting this guy obtain firearms won’t cost any of us anything - and, in fact, it’ll contribute to the economy. Who knows, perhaps he’ll shoot the next Syrian “refugee” who tries to kill us natural-born Americans?

Rights are rights, and the 2nd Amendment is clear.
