Cruz needs to identify a “path to permanent non-citizenship” for those who arrived illegally. If they want to re-enter as eligible for citizenship, they can go back home and get in line. If they wish to stay, they can apply for a permanent alien status, subject to stringent requirements, that never leads to citizenship and voting rights. That is the policy to thread between the position Trump is advocating, forcible repatriation, and the “path to citizenship” advocated by Bush and Clinton, perhaps even Rubio. Combined with border enforcement going forward, I think that works as a policy position.

I disagree because the next democrat president will simply allow them the ability to vote- knowing they will likely vote democrat
