A day after the fourth GOP debate, Ben Carson took a hatchet to Donald Trump's plan to deport millions of illegal immigrants living in the United States.
In an exclusive interview with the Washington Examiner Wednesday before a private fundraiser outside of Richmond, Va., Carson took aim at Trump's deportation push, saying it will "hurt" the billionaire candidate more than the Republican Party.
"I think they hurt Donald Trump in the long run," Carson said, referring to the deportation plans. "I think there are enough people who know that there are others in the race that are very reasonable. I don't think he necessarily is the representation of the Republican Party - far from it."

"If they have a pristine record, there's no reason they can't get registered, pay a back tax penalty and pay taxes going forward, and be able to remain here as guest workers," said Carson, who currently sits fourth in the Examiner's latest power rankings.
"If they want to become American citizens and they want to have voting rights, then they should have to do the same thing as anybody else," Carson said. "They shouldn't get extra advantage for having broken the law. That doesn't make any sense, and it offends the sense of justice of many Americans."
"If a majority of Americans say, 'it really doesn't offend my sense of justice, and yes we actually want those people to become citizens,' I would listen," Carson continued, "because this country is of, for and by the people - not of, for and by the government."

Even so, there are a legion of self-flagellating white guilters out there who will support him no matter what. That is why his poll numbers continue to stay where they are, when they should be down there around those of Graham.
I would listen,” Carson continued, “because this country is of, for and by the people - not of, for and by the government.”
Yeah, American people, not every ill, aging, unskilled, foreign felon in the western hemisphere who wants to hop on the federal gravy train.
Speaking of Rubio, did you hear him on Mark Levin’s show last night? He was talking like he wanted to build a wall, etc., etc. - what a liar! His answers to mark were so canned and didn’t come from the heart - he was reciting his rhetoric. It sounded like he was nervous too, because I think he had to take several drinks of water during the interview. He’s trying to steal Trump’s platform - I don’t understand why people can’t see through this charlatan.
Carson is not the angel a bunch of FReepers think he is.
Anybody who would believe that Rubio will build a wall is drinking too much of something stronger than water.
Only a few weeks ago he was giving a speech to a Spanish immigration advocacy group assuring them that he was still for amnesty.
OK, let’s deport him...... : )
Yep! Carson and Rubio have confirmed they want amnesty. Great snooker on Trump’s part.
The “pay a penalty” is the one that gets me. Although many come to work, many come to get our government handouts. Anyone who believes they are ban from our government programs is not facing reality. An example is Obama’s Aunt Zeituni who lived in public housing until she died last year. Are they going to pay this penalty with our tax payer subsidies too?
Pay a Penalty is just a way to pretend they have not really broken our laws by coming here.
He pandered to the conservative wing, now he’s pandering to the left. Why doesn’t he just run as a Dem and be done with it.

Like all the back taxes for illegals folks, Ben fails to tell us if the many who would qualify for EITC would be able to collect it.
But I guess he's not going to make them learn English like Jeb.
"If a majority of Americans say, 'it really doesn't offend my sense of justice, and yes we actually want those people to become citizens,' I would listen," Carson continued, "because this country is of, for and by the people - not of, for and by the government."
In other words, Ben would hear whatever he wants to hear.
Carson will slip as people begin to realize he is nothing.
Yes. It is a bad bill. I bet the jerks in congress will pass it.
“slams” is not a word I would use when describing anything out of Mr. Mumbles’ mouth.
"'would listen' on citizenship path" - TRANSLATION:
AMNESTY!
I think it is possible that there may be conservative republicans who genuinely believe that creating a “pathway” to citizenship is a fair way to deal with illegals.
But, the problem, as everyone on this site knows, is:
If the government is unwilling to follow the law as it is RIGHT NOW, why should we believe they will follow any future law regarding illegal immigration?
Before any discussion of any other policy takes place, the following needs to occur first:
- Close the border first.
- Enforce the law as it exists NOW.
- Stop funding freebees to illegal people here in the U.S.
(this one thing alone would encourage many illegals to
“self-deport”).
- Stop hiring illegal immigrants.
- Fine businesses who willingly hire illegals till it hurts.
- Immediately deport criminals who are illegal.
FReep You Ben Carson (FUBC)!! Amnesty pimps need not apply.
He needs, then, to listen to the CITIZENS that would elect him... those telling him “No!”
You can take the black man out of the ghetto but you can’t take the ghetto out of the black man.
Carson offends my sense of justice.
No they don't. I suspect there are thousands of Carson supporters on FR, seething at reading his negative press.
They just like him.
