Missou Professor Dale Brigham resigned this week following outrage over his refusal to cancel an exam on campus.

A beloved University of Missouri professor resigned after he refused to cancel a school exam during the hunger strike and athlete’s boycott.

Dr. Dale Brigham, considered one of the most beloved professors at the University of Missouri, has resigned after refusing to cancel an exam for students who claimed to feel “unsafe.â€
“If you don’t feel safe coming to class, then don’t come to class,†Dr. Brigham told his students. “I will be there, and there will be an exam administered in our class,†he continued, imploring his students to stand up to the bullies on campus. “If you give into bullies, they win. The only way bullies are defeated is by standing up to them.â€
Dr. Brigham was sharply criticized in the media for requiring his students to attend class and take their exam. Salon ran a story with the headline “White Missouri professor shames black students for heeding violent threats.â€The Washington Post featured similar coverage of “a white professor†who “challenged his students to come to class.â€
Those upset with Dr. Brigham’s decision to hold class took to Twitter calling for Brigham to be firedand calling him “a failure as a human being.â€
Under intense pressure, Dr. Brigham has both cancelled the exam and resigned from the university, according to screenshots posted online of an email from Dr. Brigham to his students.

The University of Missouri has reached the point where I consider their graduates unemployable. Any students there with half a brain would do well to transfer to another school ASAP.

They're probably gearing up for a large-scale flight of faculty, followed by massive lawsuits over the "hostile environment" on campus that forced them to leave.

That was never going to happen. In NCAA Division I programs, the people involved in revenue-generating sports are the ones who actually run the schools.
The prof should not have quit. He should have flunked every pseudo-student who blew off his test. He let them win.

This guy did the right thing by not canceling the exam. BUT, we have to keep in mind that he was not facing the loss of more than one million dollars if the football team did not play. Schools have to wake up and figure out a way to become less dependent upon football teams for revenue. I wonder if a college could buy insurance that would protect them from financial losses in the event of a team strike. They really need to figure out something because the cat is out of the bag now.
This sort of thing will stop only when they quit winning, and as long as society embrace this behavior and enable this blackmail, they will continue to win and it will escalate. The Professor is exactly right.
Well, you can expect this ridiculous extortion everywhere now.
It takes a conviction of rules and order to have a society that can progress with benefit to all.
