The NCAA and the University of North Carolina each filed a motion asking a federal judge to throw out a class-action lawsuit related to the schoolâs academic scandal involving fake classes for athletes.

The University of North Carolina paid whistleblower Mary Willingham $335,000 to sett!le her lawsuit with the university, following the largest academic fraud scandal in NCAA history.
This went on for 18 years!
How could other administrators, coaches, professors and students not have known? Why was there no accountability to those at the top of the University of North Carolina? Several lower echelon employees were fired, but no accountability at the top. This is much more series than the University of Misery fiasco
The fake classes scheme fallout has pretty much gone away, and the University of North Carolina emerged unscathed. No sanctions, no harm, no foul.

Is this not very similar to a situation where a booster is buying star athletes cars, and the coaching staff knows nothing, therefore is not responsible?

SURELY this case merits the most serious punishment possible - the NCAA death penalty.
UNC records show deep dependence on fake classes

Wouldn’t this be somewhat similar to a pharmacy dispensing placebo pills?
NC’s actions are the most serious I have ever heard of. NC’s men’s basketball coach should be fired and many of their sport teams should receive severe sanctions. Other schools have received far worse punishment for far less issues (OSU players getting discounts for tattoos). How can North Carolina can get away with this. Worse, why do they not stand up and take responsibility.
How could other administrators, coaches, professors and students not have known?

Did Mike Adams know? I don’t really keep up with him, so maybe he has written about it already.
Does anyone really believe athletes at major universities actually go to “real” classes and get a “real” degree?
The legal basis of the motion for dismissal is interesting. It really has nothing to do with the facts of the case. The NCAA is claiming that it is not responsible for what UNC does. UNC is claiming that a Federal court has no jurisdiction in a North Carolina matter.
No, not all; some do. But, the rules are that a student must attend classes and stay eligible to play. UNC apparently found a way to keep them eligible without attending classes.
Yes, many go on to graduate school, many become successful professionals in medicine, law, etc.
In my college days freshmen athletes had mandatory study halls run by graduate students developing study skills.
