Navy launches second test missile off Southern California coast
LA Times ^ | November 9, 2015 | W.J. Hennigan

The U.S. Navy said it launched a second -- and final -- missile in a planned exercise Monday afternoon from a submarine off the Southern California coast.

The second test launch of the Trident II (D5) missile from a ballistic submarine in the Pacific Ocean took place Monday afternoon, the Navy said. The blast-off took place to far less fanfare than Saturday night’s launch, which provoked residents from San Francisco to Mexico to take to social media, posting photos of an eerie-looking bluish-green plume smeared above the Pacific.

Speculations were wide-ranging, including rumors of an otherworldly alien UFO visit. In fact, the streak was generated from the Trident missile’s rocket motor.

The Navy later confirmed a ballistic submarine launched an unarmed Trident II (D5) missile in a test flight, but would not define the window of time available for conducting additional launches, nor would it disclose where the exercise was actually taking place.

Stunning isn’t it? We have to show Russia and Korea we can flex our muscles, too.

When we test a missile, it is exposed for scrutiny. Wonder just how tough it actually showed itself to be, when compared to those of other threatening nations?

Under Obama, are we even still the master and commander in sky warfare?

I remember the old charts for the Channel Islands area, and the next chart up (Sur to Conception, which I used to have almost memorized) had submarine transit zones marked.

Loose lips and all that, but those markings have long ago now been removed from newer charts, and I'm certain that anyone who would be in position to cause possible harm to submarines, have copies of the old charts (from back when Loran C and Loran A markings would be on the same chart, iirc)

Heck, a guy can't hardly BUY a chart nowadays --- have to download it from NOAA, then take the computer file to a printer.

Yes, and indisputably so.

And we are doing this right off Los Angeles,,,,because?
It could be done a thousand places where nobody would see.
I think it was designed specifically so plople in So Cal would witness it.

Obama is up to no good.
And in the middle of all this tension, can anyone imagine the wailing from DC and Obamas press if any other nation would have done this?

What does a missile launch feel and sound like when you are inside the sub?

I had a vivid dream about her once.

Up until then I hadn't noticed I had such a thing for her.

In the dream she lavished her fullest attentions upon me. I was shocked. She was tremendous. Everything about her. Aah, and that voice, ooh baby.

Isn’t it because the expanse of sea west of Point Magu is ringed with radar sites that they use to track sub launched missiles during this type of testing?

That’s what I thought too at first but after reading some comments by people familiar with that type of testing I think that what is being interpreted by some as the missile exploding was actually the missile staging and/or phenomena associated with plume behavior in thin atmosphere.
