But is it now reconsidering that situation and preparing to ditch the Syrian leader? The question deserves more than a yes or no answer. Russia is having to rethink its approach because its political-military strategy to prop up the Assad regime, if not the president, has not been successful.
But then the problems began. Despite more than 1,600 Russian aerial missions, hitting more than 2,000 targets, Assadâs army largely has failed to gain ground. The only advance was south of Aleppo city â and even there the Syrian military has yet to capture a major position. Meanwhile, it was the Islamic State who won a strategic victory, cutting the main route into Aleppo. Rebels have also gained territory in a counter-offensive in Hama Province.
I believe Russia said from the beginning it was targeting terroists, not only ISIS....they make no distinctions on which groups are which but target them all....with that they also warned Syrian citizens to leave the country.
I am not for or against any sides in this except whoever can end this war. I don’t see that it’s going to happen any time soon as long as countries outside Syria continue to arm every fighter in the arena. In fact this will extend the war....
Most civil wars can last ten years....this one is just half way...but as said, with the outside countries now operating in the country this will likely exceed ten years.
