TransCanada asks to suspend U.S. permit application for Keystone XL pipeline (4 days ago)

WASHINGTON — TransCanada wants a Keystone XL timeout.

The company on Monday asked the State Department to suspend consideration of its controversial pipeline while Nebraska officials review its route through the state.

Last month, TransCanada applied to the Nebraska Public Service Commission for route approval after opponents went to court, challenging the law under which the route had been approved by then-Gov. Dave Heineman.

“I note that when the status of the Nebraska pipeline route was challenged last year, the State Department found it appropriate to suspend its review until that dispute was resolved,” according to a statement from Russ Girling, TransCanada’s president and chief executive officer. “We feel under the current circumstances a similar suspension would be appropriate.”

TransCanada says it anticipates the PSC approval process in Nebraska will take seven to twelve months.

The company’s request for a federal pause comes despite its previous complaints — echoed by project supporters — about long delays in the review process since TransCanada first filed its permit application in 2008.

Now, the company says extra time will allow the federal government to base its permit decision on a route that has some certainty.

The administration is widely expected to reject the pipeline, which would carry crude from the oil sands of Canada to refineries in Texas. The project long ago became a political football between supporters touting its potential for job creation and energy independence and opponents who say it tramples on landowner rights and poses great environmental risks.

According to a Trans-Canada spokesman on FOX News today the U.S. State Department asked Trans-Canada if they would cancel the Keystone project. When Trans-Canada said no John Kerry asked them if they would announce they were putting the pipeline on hold. Trans-Canada agreed. Then Obama announces his killing the pipeline.

Let me get this straight.

President Obama announced Friday that he is rejecting the Keystone XL pipeline proposal, saying the project “would not serve the interests of the United States.”

But the Obama Department of Education has ordered the Palatine school district in ILL to allow a male transgender student into the girls locker room and showers.

This world has truly gone mad!
