So the left is all abuzz over Ben Carsonâs 1998 speech in which he expressed an, admittedly, exotic view on the purpose of Egyptian pyramids. (This is a another hard-hitting click-bait piece by BuzzFeed cub reporter Andrew Kaczynski, so no link because I try not to reward bad behavior.)
At the 1998 commencement for Andrews University, a school associated with the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Carson also dismissed the notion that aliens were somehow involved in the construction of the pyramids.
âMy own personal theory is that Joseph built the pyramids to store grain,â Carson said. âNow all the archeologists think that they were made for the pharaohsâ graves. But, you know, it would have to be something awfully big if you stop and think about it. And I donât think itâd just disappear over the course of time to store that much grain.â
In the Old Testament, Joseph, one of the 12 sons of Jacob, is sold into slavery in Egypt by his jealous brothers. He eventually rose to become a top aide to the Egyptian pharaoh, advising him of a dream vision he had of coming years of famine in the ancient kingdom. Josephâs sage advice of the coming famine (and directions to store gain) helped the Egyptians survive the famine.
Carson said the design of the pyramids made clear they were for grain storage.
âAnd when you look at the way that the pyramids are made, with many chambers that are hermetically sealed, theyâd have to be that way for various reasons. And various of scientists have said, âWell, you know there were alien beings that came down and they have special knowledge and thatâs howââ you know, it doesnât require an alien being when God is with you.â

Is that all they can find to berate Ben Carson...???
If Joseph built them, then the white folks wasn’t in caves when the pyramids was built.
Unless Sharpton thinks Joseph is black. Rev. Wright probably does.
.
Nice try ... Redstate ...
Frankly, I don’t want “anyone” with the Nuclear Suitcase who believes wacked-out religious cult baloney ...
like the pyramids at Giza were designed for “grain storage” ...
.
Unfortunately, while this should be meaningless, it isn’t. In the general election the MSM will take something trivial like this and have it dominate the news cycle for days. Ted Cruz is too clever to make these Aikenesque statements, and Donald Trump is too strong to let the media make anything of them.
Dont be too dismissive of it.
The leftist media is heavily rooted in pop-culture and this will reverberate back and forth across the leftist web media like sloshing water in a bathtub.
And since Carson is one of those candidates that couldn’t counter-punch if his life depended on it, he will let it sit and shrug his shoulders, acting surprised that anyone cares about it. Or lamenting how bad politics have become.
You know, the usual crap we get from candidates on our side of the aisle.
Today's liberals, especially the so-called "progressives," with all of their domination of academia and Far Left politics, seem to fit into a category described in an essay by T.S. Eliot on Virgil:
"In our time, when men seem more than ever to confuse wisdom with knowledge and knowledge with information and to try to solve the problems of life in terms of engineering, there is coming into existence a new kind of provincialism which perhaps deserves a new name. It is a provincialism not of space but of time--one for which history is merely a chronicle of human devices which have served their turn and have been scrapped, one for which the world is the property solely of the living, a property in which the dead hold no share."(Bold added for emphasis)
Without intellectual anchoring in the enduring ideas which provided the philosophical foundation of America's Declaration of Independence and Constitution, their vain imaginations of superiority only expose their limited world view.
Yet, the America which rose from obscurity to greatness, from crude hoes and axes to putting a man on the moon, and from oppression by King George to a symbol of liberty for millions all over the world--that America provides shelter for them, even as they attempt to "change" her into something unimagined by the Founders.
If they are allowed to succeed in their own little provincial experiment, their posterity never will know the "blessings of Liberty" proclaimed by the Preamble to America's Constitution.
Now would be a good time for conservatives to read Dr. Russell Kirk's "The Conservative Mind, which can be read online, by the way.
In Kirk's last chapter he reviews the works of poets and writers, quoting lines which now seem to bear a strikinig resemblance to the players on the stage in American politics today.
For instance, in Robert Frost's "A Case for Jefferson," Frost writes of the character Harrison:
"Harrison loves my country too
But wants it all made over new.
. . . .
He dotes on Saturday pork and beans.
But his mind is hardly out of his teens.
With him the love of country means
Blowing it all to smithereens
And having it made over new."
Yes, the pseudointellectuals who occupy the White House, the media, and much of Congress fancy themselves "intellectuals."
By their words and actions, however, they display that provinciality Dr. Kirk recalls as having been described by T. S. Eliot (see above) as being one of time and place, having no intellectual grounding in ideas older than their own little experience in dabbling and discussing Mao, Marx, and other theoreticians--even those "experts" who attempt to denigrate a man whose understanding of their brains exceeds anything they ever have comprehended.
America's written Constitution deserves protectors whose minds are out of their "teens" in terms of their understanding of civilization's long struggle for liberty.
It certainly deserves protectors who do not consider it a "flawed" document because that Constitution does not permit the government it structures to run rough shod over the rights of its "KEEPERS, the People" (Justice Story).
Blasting it "all to smithereens" seems to be the goal of the Far Left which currently has control of the Executive branch of the government and wishes to carry it "forward" (see HRC's logo).
True.
I find his views on illegal immigration, gun control, and pacifism to be much more troubling.
By the time a single pyramid could have been started by Joseph’s command/direction, the bumper crop years would have ended and they’d have been well into the famine.
Pathetic no nothings living on sour grapes have no choice but develop trivia, to mountainize ant hills
Carson has many serious problems, but this ain’t one of them : )
Sorry, but if you think the pyramids were used to store grain, you have some serious lunacy going on.
Dr. Carson is a champion, but he’s playing in the wrong arena now, and the end is not going to be pretty.
The infotainment complex will keep him afloat for the next few weeks while working up the “Rubio surge”, and then they will throw him away like a piece of trash.
A bad end for a good man.
And there’s a bunch of these. Some here may agree with the points (just like most hold views which are deemed preposterous to others), but need to recognize that a whole lotta needed voters will be rapidly turned off should any of them not be brief in their appearance. There’s “I think teaching gun safety hands-on in public school is a good idea” (sensible to many, though anathema to others’ political goals), and then there’s “I think the Pyramids were for grain storage” (objectively preposterous, an unnecessary admission, and makes one concerned about mental instability).
One key rule of public relations: don’t answer contentious questions that weren’t being asked. Makes people wonder why you’re bringing up or fending off something nobody cared about.
Recalls a gas station ad I’ve seen: Local indian reservation gas station runs a TV ad, ending with “There’s no water in our gas!” ...wait, WHAT? WTF would you feel compelled to make such a declaration?
I have to wonder if the Left is working to keep Carson on top so they have someone to easily tear apart later.
Ben Carson is a nice guy who is right on a lot of the issues. But when he starts talking outside his medical field of expertise, he sounds like......an idiot. This isn’t the first example. If the GOP nominates this guy, they loose. Simple. He is a fundy wacko.
Seriously?
You honestly think that the left had no business putting this out there? Like they were to get hold of a quote on video from Carson actually saying something as retarded as the Egyptian pyramids were used to store grain, and NOT run with it?
This illustrates exactly what is wrong with the political right. The left gets the goods and goes in for the kill, and all our side does is sit there and shake their fists at the screen and poo poo them for it, as if hurt feelings will shame the left.
And people on our side still wonder why Trump is so popular?
“I find his views on illegal immigration, gun control, and pacifism to be much more troubling.”
Yeah, that and the fact that he is a flake. A Jimmah Carter level flake. Compared to this guy, Rubio is merely innocuous.
This ain’t good!
