Twitter Engineering Manager Leslie Miley, the only black engineer in a leadership position at Twitter, just publicly announced that he has left the company. In his post, he says his reasons for leaving have everything to do with the way Twitter is addressing diversity and inclusion.
Though Miley was laid off as part of Twitter's cuts in October, he says he had already told Twitter that he had planned on leaving at the end of October. He also passed on the severance package so that he could speak openly about his experience at Twitter. So, it seems as if Twitter was hoping to silence Miley by bundling him into the company's layoffs.
A particular low moment for Miley, he wrote, happened when he asked a question at Twitter's engineering leadership meeting about what specific steps Twitter engineering was taking to increase diversity. Twitter's senior VP of Engineering responded, "diversity is important, but we won't lower the bar."

Thanks obama.
“You racists can’t lay me off... I quit”
Miley smells a lawsuit.
Wait a second. If this guy was the Engineering Manager that would indicate that he is pretty far up on the pecking order and I would suppose he’s a key guy in the organization yet he gets laid off.
That should tell you something right there.
Everyone PC understands that the racist part of this statement follows 'but'. Everyone who is realistic understands that the racist part of this statement precedes the comma.
“Lowering the bar” = “hiring underqualified because of their race, gender, sexual orientation or nationality.”
I can understand why that upsets minorities. Today, they expect to be hired based on their skin color or which way they pee.
The comments at the source by apparent diversity candidates indicates how pervasive the indoctrination has become. These folks are likely in their 20’s to 30’s yet speak as if they are aggrieved former slaves.
Sounds like by leaving he raised the bar.
Yes! It is the lawsuit and big bucks he is looking for!
When your mamma is paid to have cheeruns, that makes her a slave owner. So in a sick way a lot of them were slaves. Human beings owned for profit.
Thank you LBJ!
I wonder if he had to train his illegal immigrant replacement before leaving?
Probably incompetent as an engineer so focused other issues because she is a “People Person”.
Diversity = Lower the bar.
Diversity = Racism, favor unqualified blacks over qualified candidates.
Looks like they tried diversity and decided to lay it off.
These liberal tech companies need to be BEATEN TO DEATH with their own "diversity" club.
Too many liberal white people in these companies. Need more Conservative minorities in them.
Same thing with all the media outlets too. Kevin Williamson for ABC News anchor!!!!!
I am passionate about Twitter the service, and I love Twitter, the company. The opportunity to work on a product that is positively changing how African Americans are perceived in this country is humbling. Every day for almost three years, I have looked forward to making contributions to the platform that enables #BlackLivesMatter, and that amplifies the voices of #BlackTwitter.

During my time at Twitter I experienced the pride and sense of purpose on seeing #Ferguson and #blacklivesmatter on the most prominent wall at Twitter HQ. This is something I will never forget.
And yet there were moments that caused me to question how and why a company whose product has been used as an agent of revolutionary social change did not reflect the diversity of thought, conversation, and people in its ranks.
Twitter sponsored an event celebrating the work of Freada Kapor Klein and the Level Playing Field Institute. The former Head of the NAACP, Ben Jealous was a featured speaker. This event was attended by many a variety of leaders in tech representing a broad cross section of races, genders, and backgrounds. However, the employee resource group representing Twitterâs black employees (@blackbirds) did not receive an invitation.
And in June of 2015, Jesse Jackson was allowed to present at the Twitter shareholder meeting. Again, there was no communication to Twitterâs black employee resource group. In comparison, when Hillary Clinton and Mellody Hobson visited, the Twitter Women Engineering resource group was notified and given an opportunity to meet privately.
Twitter, like Facebook, seems to me like a waste of time. But, I suppose some people like to gossip and a concerned about what others think. What’s nice about Twitter is that I don’t have to participate. It’s free enterprise and no one is forced to be a customer......but it’s still a waste of time ;-)
“Twitter Engineering Manager Leslie Miley, the only black engineer in a leadership position at Twitter, just publicly announced that he has left the company.”
Somebody wake up Curly Bill!!
Were I a betting man, I’d wager a fair sum that the engineering workforce is not very diverse - probably 75% Indian, 20% Asian, and 5% “other”.
