Conventional wisdom suggests that Donald Trump’s candidacy was dead on arrival with Hispanics. His strong stand against illegal immigration has been viewed as an instant turnoff.
However, one consultant suggests that Trump may actually do well with those Hispanics who matter in an electoral context. From the Washington Times:
"This stuff you read about how Hispanics are going to run away from Trump in droves is a Northeastern myth," said longtime presidential campaign adviser Mark Sanders.
"Most Hispanics here in East Texas are here legally, they vote, and they are hard-line opponents of illegal immigration," said Mr. Sanders, a top adviser in Democrat Tony Sanchez's 2002 campaign to unseat then-Gov. Rick Perry. "The only one they want is Trump -- not Hillary, not Bernie. That's the conundrum for Democrats."
Mr. Sanders says Hispanics in East Texas "come here from rural backgrounds, from the lower end of the social and economic ladder. Most of their kids go to community colleges because it's all their families can afford, and then go directly into the military. They have hard-core patriotism -- just what Trump plays into," Mr. Sanders added.
Perhaps that clip of from a Las Vegas rally of a Colombian woman singing Trump’s praises wasn’t a fluke after all.
When I was delivering Papa John's Pizza parts (big truck delivery to impossible to unload safely hide-a-way places in large cities) .... in the Virginia/Baltimore/Washinton areas, There were a TON of painter type Mexican looking crews everywhere
I saw the same in Texas
I'm sure (or almost sure) these outfits are centrally controlled/watched (like taxi medallions) by one or a few entities
If THOSE guys are on Trump's side ... the statement is true
Unfortunately, Hispanics vote 70 percent and up with socialism. We hear this every election, but the stats don’t change. Too many of them buy the La Raza crap. Sure, they are hard working, but they also love big government.
His stand on ILLEGALS is what has endeared the legals to him. They are not stupid. They see what is happening to them as a group.
A friend is an election judge: has many Hispanics who enter and ask,”where can I vote for the democrats?” If it’s a choice where there isn’t a dem option (city council, etc) they get confused, bring out the ballot and ask the judges which one is democrat.
I’ve almost given up hope for honest, fair and just elections. Too much fraud and bribing.
The key is that the 50% that side with democrats are going to side with democrats no matter what.
The democrats hammer the GOP over the head with sending mom, dad and the children back to Mexico (whether it's true or not) and the GOP HAS to continue to hammer the danger that open borders cause. The felons, gang members, violent criminals and other human debris have to be talked about over and over. This is definitely making a difference to mainstream, educated, Americans of hispanic descent.
Secondly, the other message that has to be conveyed is that if you really "care" about how illegals are put into danger by crossing illegally with coyotes or other unsavory types that rob, beat, rape and kill them, then HELP them! The only way to help the honest hard working illegal is to secure the border, give them a guest worker permit and safe passage in and out of the country. To do less is heartless.
There's absolutely nothing wrong or detrimental to knowing WHO is coming into this country. A guest worker program has to put into place. We can build a system that allows illegals who work to come and go as they please and keep the riff-raff out.
