But there is a problem of mandatory sentences. I think the federal government shouldn’t necessarily be involved to the extent that they are in criminal justice matters, and the president has opportunity to shift power back to the states to let the states decide this, and to give people second chances.As usual, the justification is a lie.
Those mandatory sentences were put in place to protect the public and reduce crime. They were also put in place to deal with liberal judges who apply minimal sentences to hardened, violent criminals. We shifted power away from local "catch-and-release" judges for a reason.
