Matt Bevin, Republican, Wins Governor’s Race in Kentucky

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Matt Bevin, a Republican political novice, wealthy Louisville businessman and Tea Party favorite, was elected Kentucky’s next governor on Tuesday, a victory that could herald a new era in a state where Democrats have held the governor’s mansion for all but four of the last 44 years. The Associated Press declared Mr. Bevin the winner shortly after 8 p.m.

In beating his Democratic opponent, Attorney General Jack Conway, Mr. Bevin surprised many in his own party, who believed that the climate in Kentucky was ripe for a Republican but feared that Mr. Bevin, a charismatic conservative with a go-it-alone style, was too far out of the mainstream and too inexperienced to win.

Mr. Bevin, 48, has spent recent weeks traveling Kentucky in a 2001 Chevrolet Suburban with more than 200,000 miles on it; on Tuesday, Election Day, he turned up at two Chick-fil-A restaurants here in Louisville, shaking hands in a last-minute bid for votes.

Jack can take all his personal attacks and negative campaigning and stick them where the sun don’t shine.
Looks like voter dissatisfaction with hack politicians extends to the states.

BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Surprised? More like broken hearted. The last thing the Repubs wanted was a real conservative in the seat. This is very good news.

Too mainstream. Yeah right. It seems at least the people in KY didn’t think so.

Political novice?? He sounds like an old fashioned politician who knows how to appeal to the electorate. Good job!!!

Great! Now they can recall McConnell and replace him with a real conservative.

Imagine what it must be like to be Bevin receiving a grudging congratulations call from McConnell tonight.

FReegards!

Good news. Now get rid of McConnell and Governor Bevin can appoint his replacement.

Terrific news.

And KY has had only 2 GOP governors in past 70 years.

I really think the tide is turning in this country. It started with last year’s Congressional elections.

I think Trump is going to win in a landslide.

US senators and congresscritters cannot be recalled. This has been litigated in both federal court (Idaho, 1967) and state court (New Jersey, 2013). However, Mitch can resign if he wants.
