SYDNEY, Australia - Russia has again thwarted attempts to create the worldâs largest ocean sanctuary in Antarctica, the final country opposing the protection of a vast swathe of rich waters from fishing, after a revised international plan won support from China.
The Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR) ends a 10-day meeting in Hobart, Australia on Friday without the consensus needed for a deal to conserve and manage the marine ecosystems in the Southern Ocean. While Russia blocked conservation proposals for a fifth consecutive time, delegates welcomed China's support for the revised Marine Protection Area (MPA) in the icy but fertile Ross Sea put forward by the United States and New Zealand.

Russian media take climate cue from skeptical Putin MOSCOW | By Andrey Kuzmin
The president believes that "there is no global warming, that this is a fraud to restrain the industrial development of several countries including Russia," says Stanislav Belkovsky, a political analyst and critic of Putin. "That is why this subject is not topical for the majority of the Russian mass media and society in general."
From initial appearance, if accurate, this is of major importance because the most recent worldwide front for Communist policy and the Communist goal of private property confiscation, is the "Environmental Protection" movement centered around "climate change", the new falsehood substituted for the discredited "global cooling" and more recent "global warming".
A formerly Communist state and supposedly current Communist state are disavowing a Communist agenda point to the Western Socialist governments.
Who's the Commies now?
If I read it right - China was OK with a modified plan that probably did not affect her and Russia said Nyet to the whole thing. Asians like the Chinese and Japanese hate to disagree publicly. I read accounts where American politicians would negotiate with the Japanese who would smile and nod and say of course and then the Japanese would privately via some signal declare they did not agree. Basically, China gets a free pass while playing lip service to any agreement.
Yes, similar thoughts:
Since Russia, China, and India have declared AGW a fraud, America and the West should not be so ARROGANT as to contradict them....
(using Bambi “logic” against him)
The Russians were always hostile to Green Peace and other such movements.
The Climate cultists will be Absolutely Apoplectic.
Let’s hope so.
China is the biggest polluter on the planet.
It seems that the Chinese authorities call themselves Communists and are authoritarian and single party in the Communist manner, but impose very little economic Communist policy in managing China.
Being that Communism is almost entirely economic policy points, it seems that Chinese authority is simply single party oligarchs infighting for personal profit in the control of China, while pretending to be Communists.
Now they remain inscrutably silent, not even giving lip service to the Western Communists, after the favor of, and bribe of, exemption, from the Communist policy agenda of the West.
This is actually funny!
That is true.
It is also true that the "Environmental" movement is the latest front and cover for Communism in the West.
That does not mean that undercover Soviet agents did not fund and promote Communism in the US (and West), they did from the 1920's until the collapse of the USSR.
I have zero indication that the green movement was pushed by the USSR is what I am saying. I agree the western born commies found a new home in the green movement after Sovietism was discredited and they had no more credibility in the west.
Communism is actually pro industrialization. Commies think the whole point of economics is to build more factories for the workers. The greens are something different - they are anti-capitalist but also anti industrialization. They want to go backwards in time while commies think they are moving towards the future.
In fact a lot of the Green movement has its origins in the same clap trap that sprang up the Nazis - that back to nature paganism crap.
When Vladamir Lenin first took power, while the battle with the White Russian Army was still ongoing, he halted his personal schedule to publish two documents: On Land, and On Forests, as the raison of Russian land use control as it was to be, all predicated on an environmental rationale. Earth Day is on Lenin's birthday.
In fact a lot of the Green movement has its origins in the same clap trap that sprang up the Nazis - that back to nature paganism crap.
You forget the sickle with the hammer because the newspapers of that time were all urban. If you go far enough back to their common origins, all three are in fact different forms of fascism. In fact, the modern "green movement" of the hippie era was sponsored by foundations belonging to some of the largest industrial corporations and banks on earth, and still is. The industrial "workers of the world" pitch was also agrarian, as you will see directly reflected in the Agenda21 Sustainable Agriculture of today.
“In fact a lot of the Green movement has its origins in the same clap trap that sprang up the Nazis - that back to nature paganism crap.”
And really, China is simply fascist. Aggressively Nationalistic, partnership with government and business, authoritarian, all the parts fit.
They have long since left behind Marxist principles.
I doubt anyone believes that Russian Communism wasn't nationalistic, too, as if the Soviet Union would give up all power and submit to a global authority had it actually won the Cold War. They're all fascist. Marxism is just a pitch to dupe the proletariat.
And I stated it started in the west.
The article has nothing to do with climate change and never mentions climate change, but you changed the title.
The underlying issue in the Ross Sea is the Antarctic toothfish, which consumers know as Chilean Sea Bass, which is very tasty, so they say, and everybody wants more.
New Zealand longliners were the first into the Ross but many from other nations followed, including Russian boats from the Black Sea.

Russia thwarts plan for Antarctic ocean sanctuary, China on board is the exact title.
I added a second article in the comment section.
