African immigrants make up a small share of the U.S. immigrant population, but their numbers are growing â roughly doubling every decade since 1970, according to a new Pew Research Center analysis of U.S. Census data.
There were 1.8 million African immigrants living in the U.S. in 2013, up from 881,000 in 2000 and a substantial increase from 1970, when the U.S. was home to only 80,000 foreign-born Africans. They accounted for 4.4% of the immigrant population in 2013, up from 0.8% in 1970.
The growth is evident among recently arrived immigrants. When compared with other major groups who arrived in the U.S. in the past five years, Africans had the fastest growth rate from 2000 to 2013, increasing by 41% during that period. (Africans are also a rapidly growing segment of the black immigrant population in the U.S., increasing by 137% from 2000 to 2013.)
The transatlantic slave trade beginning in the 16th century brought hundreds of thousands of enslaved Africans to the U. S., but significant voluntary migration from Africa is a relatively new trend.

Time to go for that open carry permit.
Many of the young males are playing high school and college football in Texas, so they can’t be all bad. Most can speak the Queen’s English and are far ahead of our Black students, so that is another plus.
I haven’t been in the presence of too many, but I have found them likewise, and they seem to view the blacks here with disdain.
One is forced, reluctantly, to suppose that admitting Europeans with collese degrees and/or necessary/valuable skills is no longer en vogue.
The harbinger of the death of Ghetto culture?
As opposed to those who are descended from slaves who were brought here and who were most likely chosen and literally bred for completely different traits.
How about Somalians?
Eritrians?
Moroccans?
Algerians?
Libyan?
Tunisians?
We can broad brush all we want, it’s never been accurate and never will be. Still, IMHO this is NOT good for the USA.
But, my exposure to most of them is limited to those here seeking graduate degrees.
Actually... Africans are about the best people on Earth.
When someone comes from actual poverty... and arrives in America. There is no victim left in them... and from a socially conservative - moral values standpoint view, there is no better demographic.
Why do we need Socialist-Atheists who will reliably vote Democrat?
Were any Somalians?
That’s been my experience as well.
Do these numbers include THE Kenyan?
“Every African immigrant I have ever met was well mannered, highly educated and a delight to be around.”
One of my relatives did an ESL course and the Africans showed up for class in suite and ties and dresses, well mannered and eager to learn.
However, who are new arrivals? Somalis who can’t learn and adapt? Muslims from other areas?
If that is the case, we are doomed.
Why would they want to come to Obama’s “God Damn America?”
I am assuming that you didn't simply see them from afar, but that you actually spoke with them about substantive issues.
Question: Were they mostly Animist, Muslim, or Christian?
Regards,
There’s Africans and then there’s Africans...
I haven’t had much experience in this area, but I have had extensive social and business contact with Caribbean immigrants, particularly in banking and healthcare industries. The above article gets it right.
That said, North Africa migrants? No, thanks.
“Actually... Africans are about the best people on Earth.”
Actually they come from very low trust societies whereas people of European descent come from high trust societies. It doesn’t work very well and we don’t need them at all.
