In CA dealers aren’t even legally allowed to sell the TDI models they have in stock from what I was told. I don’t know if it’s nationwide though.
Does anyone actually believe that VW is the only one doing this? That they are the only car company with engineers unable to meet the standards? That every other car company in the world is more capable than VW?
I figured that now some states are not going to be willing to go by what the car’s computer says, or even by the actual emissions since the scandal involves having the emission controls turned on if the software thinks the car is being tested.
Volkswagon causes Global Warming.
Thats a cheap fix.
I believe that it common practice in the auto industry to buy a competitor's car to tear them down and completely reverse engineer to know what they are doing. So I would guess that most of, if not all, VW's competitors knew. Why didn't they blow the whistle? I suspect that they wouldn't want to open that can of worms because they are probably cheating themselves and everyone is better off to just keep it secret. A tit-for-tat game will probably have no winners.
I think that there is an honor among thieves thing going on here much like what's going on in NCAA sports. As long as the cheating doesn't get too blatant or one-sided, nothing will be turned in to the authorities.
The Feds have been told to target VW.
