The 3 A.M. Budget Travesty Is Shameful Cave-In By GOP Leaders
IBD ^ | 11/02/2015

Whenever the government does something in the dead of night, you can bet it's awful and they don't want you to see it. That's the case of the just-passed budget.

The fiscal 2016 budget deal that emerged at 3:15 a.m. Friday was little more than a blank check for President Obama's final two years. Now he'll sail into retirement knowing he can spend what he wants with little opposition from a GOP Congress.

The bill passed 64-35, with only 18 Republicans in favor. But that was more than enough. Which raises a question: Why have a Republican majority if its leadership is going to let the Democrats run Washington?

With the budget ceiling removed, Congress won't have to worry about budget showdowns or government shutdowns. It can just focus on spending more.

Not surprisingly, Obama thanked both sides for their "responsible" deal: "It locks in two years of funding and should help break the cycle of shutdowns and manufactured crises that have harmed our economy."

But it was those "crises" that restrained spending in recent years. Still, Obama managed to add $8 trillion in new debt to the national tab since taking office, and he'll add another trillion — at least — by the time he leaves.

Adding more debt isn't a problem now, at least politically, since the deal suspends the debt ceiling until March 2017. It also busts caps that reined in Obama's compulsive, fiscally damaging binges, giving him and Congress $80 billion more to throw around.

This was a classic case of bad dealmaking. Departing House Speaker Boehner wanted a clean slate for his successor. And with 24 GOP senators facing re-election in 2016, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell defused a major political time bomb.

Republicans also wanted a hike in defense spending, but Obama steadfastly refused.

For you defense hawks out there, here was the bottom line horse trade in this budget:

SMALL INCREASE IN DEFENSE SPENDING FOR A LARGE INCREASE IN ENTITLEMENT SPENDING.

The GOP will spend like drunken sailors.

NO wonder they passed it in the dead of night.

Yep, this is how rats and criminals prefer to do most of their work: in the dark.

Not a cave in. The cave in will come in 2016 when we send them back.

It’s not exactly a “cave in” when you agree with it.

Overall, the GOP is no better than the democrats. Preserving their power is the most important thing to both parties. The well being of this nation is way down the list.

These are the scumbags that handed 0bama a "diamond encrusted glow in the dark AmEx card."

Seriously, to Hell with tar and feathers, that's too good for 'em. It's time that all these Senators have "treadmill accidents".

John Boehner’s parting gift....

This way, Paul Ryan’s fingerprints are not on this bill, except in a very small way. Ryan voted in favor of the bill as presented.

All in the name of comity, a sort of respectful courtesy, of course.

It is not a “cave-in” when it was desired positively by those Republican leaders. When everyone agrees with what is to be done then there is no cave-in.

Conservatives wait patiently while we engage the rest of the GOP base:

Gollum: We wants it, we needs it. Must have the precious. They stole it from us. Sneaky little hobbitses. Wicked, tricksy, false!
Smeagol: No. Not master!
Gollum: Yes, precious, false! They will cheat you, hurt you, LIE.
Smeagol: Master is our friend!
Gollum: You don’t have any friends; nobody likes you!
Smeagol: I’m not listening... I’m not listening...
