But even as the men, Assemblyman Sheldon Silver, the former speaker, and Senator Dean G. Skelos, the former majority leader, fight the charges and attempt to restore their reputations, something else will also be on trial: the culture of Albany, the state capital.
Court papers in the two cases suggest that testimony in Federal District Court will expose in granular detail what watchdog groups say is a seamy world where big money and politics have long intersected with government.
There are accounts of kickbacks disguised as legitimate income; no-show jobs for a lawmaker’s son; and the use of state money to influence a doctor to refer clients to a favored law firm that, in turn, paid millions of dollars to a lawmaker.
In the past decade, the state capital has been rocked by a seemingly endless barrage of scandals and arrests. More than 30 current or former state officeholders have been convicted of crimes, sanctioned or otherwise accused of serious wrongdoing. . .

I went to school in Albany, NY from 1981-83 and got a first hand up close look at what went on and it was not pretty. I can honestly say having now been involved in Arizona State politics that it wasn’t a case of “everyone does it.” It is really corrupt nad if it was like that then, can’t even imagine now.
Next up to bat will be Andrew the “Mollusk” Cuomo, with a room temperature IQ and enough baggage close the arrival gate at Kennedy...
You just *knew* that at least *one* of them was a Republican...otherwise the Slimes wouldn’t have touched the story.
The NY dynasty of Cuomo is beginning to falter.
And lots of RATS will go to prison, right? Ha,ha!
Skelos is a corrupt turd. He actual sided against the GOP candidate running against Cuomo in the last election. Jail all the crooks. When the prisons are full, build more and call it a jobs program.
