In almost 50 years of observing, listening to and arguing with ‘liberals’, I have come to the conclusion that they believe they are self-evidently right, and that everyone actually agrees with them. So if you assert something, anything to the contrary, you must have an ulterior motive, an evil ulterior motive.

No, it doesn't stand for Taxed Enough Already, already! When Rick Santelli went on his famous rant on the floor of the mercantile exchange (the rant which gave birth to the Tea Party), he was calling for a "Chicago Tea Party", and for people to throw their derivatives paperwork into Lake Michigan. It hearkened back to the Boston Tea Party, not some cute and clever acronym that someone came up with months later, to try to be cute and clever.
Santelli's rant was not about taxes, per se...it was about the Obammunist's "bailout" plans...the porkulus and so on. The video is on You Tube, and it's easy enough to find. The Tea Party has always been about government that has grown too large, too powerful, and infringes too much on state and individual rights. Taxes are part of it, but not the only focus, by a long shot.
History lesson over.

I am well aware of Rick's Rant, as I actually saw it live. A taxpayer revolt had been spoken of long before Santelli... He merely said the same thing all of us had been about government largess. While there were protests organized in the week after Santelli's rant, those were attended by "dozens" or maybe "200 or 300" in places.
The "TEA Party" as we know it, coalesced on tax day 2009, wherein the rally in D.C. was attended by reportedly a HALF MILLION pissed off taxpayers (and some of my favorite FReepers), organized and planned in advance of the rally under the banner of Taxed Enough Already as a Tax Day Protest.

As someone who was there, I was very interested in how many others attended.
I read a long, very scientific, estimate of the total, based on overhead pictures, that the number was slightly north of 1.8 million.
Seems right, no one we ran into was prepared to handle the crush of people attending.

Uh, no. The Tea Party, as we (meaning those of us who were out on Day One...the day after Santellis's rant) know it pays homage to the Sons of Liberty and the spirit of rebellion symbolized by the Boston Tea Party. "Taxed Enough Already" is nothing more than someone trying to be cute and clever, piggybacking on what others did months and years before.
There is/was so much more to the Tea Party than just taxes. To claim otherwise is to do disservice to history, and to our Founding Fathers.

History shows that there were “Tea Party” protests after 1773 and before Santelli’s rant in February 2009.

We didn’t have any mercantile derivatives paperwork to throw into Lake Michigan, should we have wanted to drive that far. Here, the TEA party was all about “Taxed Enough Already”.

The fact this group called themselves the âCoffee Partyâ shows historical ignorance. Itâs not about âteaâ. It was never about âteaâ as in a beverage of choice. The original âtea partyâ was not a social event.
You’ve got to step back and take a look at the “creativity” of the “progressive” left. When Al Franken worked at “Air America” radio he called his radio spot “The Franken Factor” (a rip of “The Oreily Factor”). The Global Warming crowd named their film “The Day After Tomorrow” which is a blatant rip off of the 80s nuclear holocaust film “The Day After.”
The “progressives” can’t create. They only know how to steal.

If you don't read it all you miss this nugget...
Some other method, therefore, must be thought of to immortalize the new knight of the windmill and post. Sir William, thanks to his stars, is not oppressed with very delicate ideas. He has no ambition of being wrapped up and handed about in myrrh, aloes and cassia. Less expensive odors will suffice; and it fortunately happens that the simple genius of America has discovered the art of preserving bodies, and embellishing them too, with much greater frugality than the ancients. In balmage, sir, of humble tar, you will be as secure as Pharaoh, and in a hieroglyphic of feathers, rival in finery all the mummies of Egypt.
Liberals never learn. LOL
