Can’t we just hire out our ISIS-contracted team to stage some fake war and keep people busy that way?

Obama will send US Navy garbage scows for the Chinese to use on their newly constructed island real estate.

So who was this “defense chief”? Will he still have a job or career tomorrow?

As far as I’m concerned, make him, Captain Obvious, the new Defense Secretary because nobody else in that defiled building even has that capability.

I just read further down and they attribute not that statement but some other garbage uttered from the lips of Ash Carter. What’s he going to do, negotiate the new maritime borders of China because of this man made island?

We know just how good this administration “negotiates”!

China will keep building and anyone can sail by if they want. Eventually they will have enough built for deterrence.

“China will keep building and anyone can sail by if they want. Eventually they will have enough built for deterrence.”

That is precisely the point, “anyone can[NOT] sail by if they want,” because China has been and still is using armed forces to conquer these islets and to blockade any and all sea and air traffic to those occupied by nations other than China. Right now China is blockading and trying to force Philippines Marines to evacuate one such islet claimed and occupied by the Philippines. This is nothing short of naked aggression by China despite the fact China is a signatory to a number of international agreements and Law of the Sea prohibiting such actions.

“A strategic and resource asset.”

One of the reasons the United States retained the Philippines as a temporary territory after capturing them from the Spanish Empire during the Spanish-American War was to keep Germany, Japan, or other predatory nations from seizing them from the Filipinos and using those islands as an imperial base controlling international maritime trade in Asia and the South China Sea. The American plan was to prepare the Philippines to united its diverse populations engaged in perpetual civil wars and become a self governing society capable of self defense as either an independent nation or as a self governing U.S. territory.

China’s political and military offensives in the South China Sea highlight the problems which result from having a Philippines to disunited by civil war and domestic strife to maintain a credible defense of its own territories.
