Sen. Cruz: Republican Leadership's Budget Deal Gives President Obama a Blank Check

Sen. Cruz: The Budget Deal Is a Corrupt Betrayal of the American People (video)

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Upon the Republican leadership’s passage of the Obama-Boehner Budget Deal, a backroom agreement to grow our nation’s debt and bust responsible budget caps, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) issued the following statement after voting against this reckless bill:

“Pay no attention to another roughly $80 billion in debt. Pay no attention to the fact that it is the Republican-controlled Congress giving an unlimited credit card to Barack Obama, scheduling votes at 1 o’clock in the morning, and hoping that no one notices.

“How is it prudent to continue bankrupting this nation? How is it prudent to have gone from $10 trillion to over $18 trillion in debt? How is it prudent to stay with languishing economic growth from 2008 to today when the economy has grown on average 1.2% a year? That’s prudent? How is it prudent to watch as your children’s and my children’s futures are washed away? How is that reasonable? How is that pragmatic? Why are we not instead trying to fix these problems? And not even just fix them all, not even solve everything with a perfect magical bow. Because leadership plays this game, you can’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good. Where’s the good? Leadership’s position is we can’t do anything. Leadership’s position is that with Republican majorities in both houses, we should spend more, roughly $80 billion, than we did with the Democratic majority, $63 billion.

“And let me note that for the remaining 15 months, we are going to see a binge from this president that makes the preceding six and a half years pale. I shudder to think what President Obama for 15 months will do with an unlimited credit card that the Republican majority in the House of Representatives and the Republican majority in the Senate have handed over to him.”

It also takes the economy, taxes, and anything financial off the table to clear the way for Clinton’s coronation. Good job, GOOBs!

Obama has re-armed many countries.

The only one he has tried to ‘dis-arm’ (and vowed to do so) is the United States.

Nice try Ted. Obama can't spend a penny that hasn't been appropriated by the Republican-led congress.

It's probably good politics to deflect onto Obama but even with the credit limit off of his card he can still only buy what you approve.

The RINO-controlled House has the power of the purse (1.7.1). The Founding States gave the House this unique constitutional power to kill unpopular federal government spending.

H O W E V E R . . .

Obamas first Democratic-controlled Congress totally defeated the Founding States purpose for that clause imo, by passing the unconstitutional Stimulus Project and Obamacare bills without making lawless Obama accountable for such funding, essentially making Obama financially independent of Congress.

And based on Cruz s point concerning the recent budget deal, the RINO-controlled Congress seems determined to keep Obama unconstitutionally financially independent of Congress in blatant defiance of the Constitution.

How did you miss this? That’s the point Ted Cruz is TRYING to make but obviously some aren’t taking it in.

“”unlimited credit card that the Republican majority in the House of Representatives and the Republican majority in the Senate have handed over to him.””

I didn't miss it. The point is that he's still limited to the specific programs and amounts that Congress authorizes.

Saying that removing the debt limit allows him to spend unlimited amounts is simply wrong and he knows it.
