Alaskan bush pilots have to be real careful with that stuff - if a canister is improperly packed by someone and goes off during the flight, things can go bad.
Another story was about some hikers that were dropped off in a remote area, thought the bear spray was supposed to be used like mosquito repellent and coated themselves and their tent with capsicum.

I put my shotgun (with Brennake slugs) on the plane for work in Alaska. Buy or borrow bear spray once up there. The pilots have heavy-duty containers (like a fancy PVC tube) to put the bear spray in so it doesn't discharge in the float plane or helicopter.
I've heard where someone tried a test of the bear spray by spraying stuff with it. They ended up with video of the bears rolling in the stuff!
