The U.S. will send a small number of U.S. special operations forces into Syria as part of a shift in its strategy against ISIS, officials said Friday.
A senior administration official confirmed that President Barack Obama has authorized a contingent of less than 50 special operations forces to deploy into northern Syria.
"We have been focused on intensifying elements of our strategy that have been working, while also moving away from elements of our approach that have proven less effective," the official explained.
The White House was expected to announce the decision later Friday.

Obama’s escalating the war because his buddies the Saudis need Syria for their gas pipeline and if the Russians keep Assad in charge then the pipeline becomes a pipe dream.
Great, send our best people into an area with little to no base support infrastructure to conduct the ops. Conduct the ops from the WH.
Instead of commitment and assets and a POSITION of strength, waste our best people so you can say you’re doing something, meanwhile helping the Russians (in all reality). What an a@@hole. Him and Kerry. Secret ops Proxy war. Can you say.. Vietnam and LBJ?
Can you say.....”LBJ” as in micromanaging loser, but this time an Alinsky LBJ whose intent is to waste the best and brightest in our military to make up for STUPID policy (or alternatively muslim policy from within that is intentional).
If I wanted to destroy our special forces capability in a hurry and completely take them out of the picture, this is how I’d do it.
Obama isn’t stupid. He knows what he’s doing. It’s his goals that are the issue.
I lost track. Who is Obama trying to fight there? Russia? ISIS? Syrian rebels? Al Qaeda? Syrian government forces?

It’s not going to turn out well for anybody who fights for the Saudis.
Iran and Russia can mop up ISIS, gain Turkey’s alliance by going after the Kurds.
The big prize for Russia, Iran (Persia) and Turkey is fabulously oil-wealthy and corrupt Saudi Arabia. Destroy the center of Islamic heresy and decadence so the Caliphate can reunite all mooslimbs.
Aiming the bombs at ISIS instead of dropping them in the desert would have made sense 18 months ago. Who knew? After the inevitable failure of Obama’s “strategy” has both Russia and Turkey bombing our “allies” in the area, it seems an odd time to send in American human targets. They probably will compete to see which can kill our guys first. The thought of our forces being ordered to their deaths by a devious moron makes me want to vomit.
A major question the American Congress and media seem unable to ask the Annointed One: WHAT IS YOUR STRATEGY IN SYRIA?
