My documents are fine, it's the FreeRepublic website which is producing the weird characters. On this posting, the first paragraph reads:

"A whiffer" – a batter who strikes out by swinging at and missing the third strike !

The source code for that sentence reads:

<p>&quot;A whiffer&quot; &acirc;&#128;&#147; a batter who strikes out by swinging at and missing the third strike !

It used to be only occasionally, but lately it seems to be every day it’s happening. According to one website I read, it happens more often when a article is posted from a Mac than a PC.........................
