Just who exactly is this House Freedom Caucus? I haven’t ever heard of them before.
From my readings I figured out that The Tea Party Caucus set up in 2010 by Jim DeMint and Michele Bachmann disbanded abruptly in 2013. This new group was another attempt at creating a Caucua for conservatives. Tim Huelskamp has some role as he is a spokesperson for The Freedom Caucus. They formed in January. Unlike the Tea Party Caucus, The House Freedom Caucus seems to be infected with Republican Study Committee Members. The Tea Party Caucus for all practical purposes changed names or as one site said it was reconstituted into The Freedom Caucus. Tim Huleskamp of Kansas was also chair of the Tea Party Caucus.
The interesting thing is the changes in members between The Tea Party Caucus and Freedom Caucus. Some people dropped off or quit after a few meetings. The Senate took up a Tea Party Caucus version of their own.
Two of the the most conservative members to not join The Freedom Caucus that were a big part of The Tea Party Caucus are Louie Gohmert of Texas and Steve King Of Iowa. But the have Dave Brat of Virginia and Mark Meadows of North Carolina. Justin Amash of Michigan was part of The Liberty Caucus and he moved to The Freedom Caucus, but never was with The Tea Party Caucus. He had fundamental differences with Michele Bachmann and Steve King. Tom McClintock of California and Reid Ribble of Wisconsin quit The Freedom Caucus last month.
I think The Freedom Caucus sold out and is not the same as two years when it stopped meeting or disbanded under The Tea Party Caucus name. They are a joke.
