I agree .... but to think, the Russians/Soviets already WERE in Afghanistan before we were, so ya’s mighta thunk that ‘somebody’ woulda kept the engineer’s pen and ink field notes, for future design considerations, wouldn’cha?

Agreed. But if you design to fight in a European environment and find you suddenly have to fight in the desert or mountains you send what you have and ship mod kits for the equipment when they are available. It may take a bit before the equipment gets modified. Until then the equipment may have a rough time.
