KEEPING THE FAITH
The only survivor of a shipwreck washed up on a small, uninhabited island. He prayed feverishly for God to rescue him, and every day he scanned the horizon for help, but none seemed forthcoming. Exhausted, he eventually managed to build a little hut out of driftwood to protect him from the elements, and to store his few possessions. But then one day, after scavenging for food, he arrived home to find his little hut in flames, the smoke rolling up to the sky. The worst had happened; everything was lost. He was stung with grief and anger. "God, how could you do this to me!" he cried. Early the next day, however, he was awakened by the sound of a ship that was approaching the island. It had come to rescue him. "How did you know I was here?" asked the weary man of his rescuers. "We saw your smoke signal," they replied. It is easy to get discouraged when things are going bad. But we shouldn't lose heart. Remember, the next time your little hut is burning to the ground ... it just may be a smoke signal that summons the grace of God. Just when you think you can't take anymore ... the Lord steps in. (I'm sure everyone has their own personal testimony.) May God bless you and keep you.

Dear God: I ask that no Airman, Coast Guardsman, Marine, Sailor, Soldier, Reservist, National Guardsman, or Merchant Marine feel alone or forgotten.
O Israel, hope in the Lord; For with the Lord there is loving kindness, And with Him is abundant redemption. And He will redeem Israel From all his iniquities.

Having faith in God sounds easy until we are faced with difficulty.
Then the true test happens.
Thanks Kathy!

Behind the Scenes
Oct 25, 2015
He must become greater; I must become less.
John 3:30
The outreach activities of our church culminated with a city-wide service. As the team that had organized and led the eventscomprised of our youth music group, counselors, and church leaderswalked onto the stage, we all excitedly applauded and poured out our appreciation for their hard work.
One man, however, was hardly noticeable, yet he was the leader of the team. When I saw him a few days later, I thanked and congratulated him for his work and said, We hardly noticed you during the program.
I like to work in the background, he said. He was not concerned with getting recognition for himself. It was time for those who did the work to receive appreciation.
His quiet demeanor was an entire sermon to me. It was a reminder that when serving the Lord, I need not seek to be recognized. I can give honor to God whether or not Im openly appreciated by others. A Christ-first attitude can subdue any petty jealousies or unhealthy competition.
Jesus, who is above all (John 3:31), must become greater; I must become less (v.30). When we have this attitude, we will seek the progress of Gods work. It is Christ, not us, who should be the focus of all we do.
Jesus, be the center of my thoughts, desires, and actions. Control me and use me.
The spotlight is the place for Christ.
John 3 focuses on three important personalities. The early portion of the chapter describes Nicodemus, one of the leading teachers of Israel, coming to Jesus by night to dialogue with Him about things Nicodemus admittedly did not understand (vv. 1-21). The second part of the chapter focuses on John the Baptist and his statements exalting Jesus as the great Bridegroom (vv. 22-36). Central to both of these accounts is the third and most significant person in the chapter, Christ Himselfthe mystery Nicodemus couldnt unravel and the wonder John praised. Bill Crowder

We made substantial progress today - tore down most of the remaining old fence and got the new fence posts in and plumb.
Tomorrow afternoon we will get the cross-beams and slats up.

The boy works today, Tuesday is our usual big hangout day.
College is indeed agreeing with him, he has really excelled at responsibility and diligence to the task at hand. He's learning about the real world and is becoming a man.
What's up your way?

I am still getting rid of furniture, and my brothers haven’t arrived yet.
I won’t disconnect the computer until the last minute, at which time I will take an axe to the monstrous desk and put the pieces in the dumpster.
The Lord has blessed me to bless a young couple with all my furniture, kitchen supplies, etc, and they have been taking stuff out all day.
Mom is still in the hospital and on antibiotics. I will have a little time to set up my room in her house before she gets home.
