If he's radical Muslim (within 30 seconds of that information being leaked) the DHS will say it' 'not a terrorist act'. If the guy's black it'll take hours for the information to leak out... same if he's an illegal. If he's white and southern papers will speculate on it being a hate crime. If more than 30 minutes have gone by WITHOUT the race being announced, he's not white.
