Russian Media Invites Dissent; Servile Western Media Doesn't
Russia Insider ^ | October 21, 2015 | Nina Kouprianova

The trope of ‘Russian state propaganda’ in mainstream Western media is a persistent one, especially as of late. This continued focus expresses one’s own loss of control as older cable-news models are in decline, the media landscape becomes more diverse, and various web platforms allow younger savvy users to locate alternative information sources. This kind of repetitive finger-pointing is also simultaneously meant to delegitimize Russia’s foreign-language broadcasting and to explain the support for Putin domestically.

The notion in question relies on a number of related assumptions:

•that Western countries do not have state media; •that corporate media is impartial; •that state media cannot feature opposing points of view and is thus inferior to its corporate counterpart; •that media consumers, the general and even the educated public, are incapable of critically analyzing the information they receive.

Let us address the inconsistencies in these assumptions issued by those, who consider themselves the paragon of accurate journalism, fit to set and criticize reporting standards for all. Then, we will proceed to examine the domestic Russian media landscape, focusing on political, economic, and social (i.e., non-entertainment) issues. Let us also agree to define “propaganda” as not simply sharing information that promotes a particular view point—no one is immune to that—but, rather, as sharing information that is deliberately misleading, one that may include purposeful omissions, especially when counter-facts are readily available

Ahh so we are still in the Khrushchev Brezhnev days then...

Dah...

No, Blahh

Not free but getting there, I do not see a mass migration from Russia and their birthrate (not foreigners) has passed the replenishment levels the Europeans are dealing with right now...

They need the workers as they do not have enough kids, probably because of guilt over killing the planet...

Yes, the BBC makes the old Pravda look honest.

One can reasonably argue that there has never been honest “news” that is simple, straight reportage.

Invariably the personal biases of the witnesses, the reporter, and the editors all come into play. Even back to the days of the pamphleteers at the invention of the printing press.

"Only a Trump supporter would believe bogus articles like thus."

Why bring Trump into this?

It's merely an example of very sophisticated propaganda.

Russia is catching the West in that regard.

The BBC just blatantly lie. A few days ago they actually said that the al-Nusra Front were a moderate rebel group with the Free Syrian Army.

‘Um NO, the al-Nusra Front are al-Qaeda in Syria you filthy liars.
