He said the window of opportunity had closed and left the impression that he was still grieving.
I looked from traces of evidence that he might suggest he could still be considered an insurance policy in case Hillary was indicted or otherwise was down and out, but didn't see any.

So I guess the dem nominee will be Sanders then. If all goes as I hope Hildabeast will be on trial by this time next year.Her case will never go to trial. Either she skates, or a health issue will arise to pull her out of the political arena.
Also, don't forget that if necessary Biden can be drafted at the convention for the good of the country; it's a card that can be played if for some reason Hillary! becomes untenable as a nominee. The Powers That Be will never allow Sanders to be the nominee, and unlike Trump with the GOP, Sanders has nothing other than the support of the hard left--no money of his own, no celebrity of his own, he's the Eugene McCarthy of 2016.

My take: Even Biden realizes the last 7 years would be an albatross around his neck. He can use the “family” excuse, make it plausible, and not get smacked around in 2016.
