Support for, and opposition to, gun control is closely associated with several demographic characteristics, including race, level of education and whether one lives in a city. Nearly all are trending forcefully against the NRA, author and UCLA professor Adam Winkler writes. The core of the NRAs support comes from white, rural and relatively less educated voters. This demographic is currently influential in politics but clearly on the wane. While the decline of white, rural, less educated Americans is generally well known, less often recognized is what this means for gun legislation.

I think you could go to any Latino who lives in an urban area...like Memphis for example....more than fifty percent will admit they too own a weapon. This is one of the myths that people dream about. Blacks own legit weapons....whites own legit weapons....Latinos own legit weapons.
It used to be immigrants came here to ESCAPE the Tyranny being foisted upon them...
NOW, immigrants are being LURED here to BRING WITH THEM the Tyranny THEY ARE USED TO!!!!!
In an ideal world, only Mexican drug smugglers, Muslim terrorists, and black gang bangers will have guns. “We don’t need no stinkin’ Second Amendment.”
The democrats are counting on all the illegals they are importing to be max. liberals and help defeat conservatism forever. That could backfire if the minorities they bring in realize the freedoms they have can be defended and should be. The democrats are banking on the presumption they will never think for themselves.
the writer is a racist..
Probably so, but Latinos still vote heavily Democrat, so they’re still supporting gun grabbers whether
And with the NRA, elimination of private firearms ownership and the last vestiges of what was the United States. As we tolerate more and more legislation by executive fiat and overreaching regulation by unelected, activist bureaucrats, there will be no frontal assault on the 2nd Amendment, just a progressive whittling away of private firearms ownership, facilitated and enabled by a corrupt Congress and SCOTUS. Our country is being progressively (notice the increasing recurrence of that word) turned over to immigrants - legal and illegal, with no understanding or appreciation of what America is or, more correctly, was...
Most immigrants from the third world vote Dem and that won’t change. The author is right
Here is a funny thing.
I belong to a private range. We have had a large influx of new members the last few years. Many are Hispanic and Asian.
As an old black gentleman told me once “Gun nuts are not confined to the white guys”.
Winkler is right in his conclusion even if his reasoning doesn’t track. More Third World immigration equals more Dem voters
It’s just a larger, global version of what’s happening at the state level. As people from California, New York, Maryland, etc., flee what they’ve created, they and their philosophies migrate to other states that aren’t yet completely fiscally and philosophically bankrupt.
They rely too much on these immigrants towing the line for them in return for their bribes.
Winkler, born and raised in Los Angeles, is the youngest son of Academy-Award winning film producer Irwin Winkler. As a child, he had small acting parts in movies, including appearing as the son of Robert De Niro and Liza Minnelli in Martin Scorsese's New York, New York (1977).
Winkler holds a Bachelor in the Science of Foreign Service from Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service, a Juris Doctor from New York University School of Law, and a Master's degree from UCLA in political science. He served as a law clerk to judge David Thompson of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit from 1995-96. As a young lawyer, Winkler practiced with prominent trial lawyer Howard Weitzman and represented Michael Jackson in his defense against charges of sexual assault.
Professor Adam Winkler was quoted in the Washington Post saying that if states cannot limit gun purchases, it will be a boon for gun traffickers.
The gates at the border are wide open for this reason. That is why I can’t stand listening to RINOS more that democrats. I understand who the real enemy is but RINOS like Jeb Bush REALLY make me sick!
Daily Beast Contributor Dismisses Scalia as ‘Extremist’ on 2nd Amendment; Federalist Society Responds By Ken Shepherd
August 22, 2013 | 3:30 PM EDT
Liberal constitutional law professor Adam Winkler took to the Daily Beast today to attack Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia as an “extremist” on the Second Amendment.
Winkler — who filed a friend-of-the-court brief in 2008 backing the District of Columbia’s gun ban — drew upon an AP news wire account regarding comments Scalia made at a recent Federalist Society event about the purpose for which the Second Amendment was proposed by Congress in 1789. But an official with the Federalist Society who was in attendance at the speech says Winkler is all wet. First, the key charge Winkler leveled at Scalia (emphasis mine):
“The idea that the Second Amendment gives people the right to revolt against government is broadly shared among gun rights extremists. And, indeed, the Framers were armed revolutionaries who understood that guns were useful for throwing off the yoke of tyranny. No doubt they believed that an armed citizenry would make it difficult for a tyrannical ruler to run roughshod over the people. But thats not why they put the Second Amendment in the Constitution.”

Just maybe there is to much freedom in this country to keep all those immigrants on the democratic reservation.
Thank you!..I hate this son of a bitch for sure!

One of the primary tools in the leftist propaganda arsenal is claiming that history is on their side, and that their eventual victory is pre-ordained. It is strong moral support for the religion of the state. I think that is what Adam is engaged in here.
He is whistling past the graveyard. He is deluding himself, or at least attempting to delude the common, uninformed leftist.
The trends he mentions were more favorable for second amendment infringements in the previous 22 years, yet support for protecting the right to have and carry guns has increased nearly 50 percent in that period. From 1993 to 2015, support for the right to keep and bear arms went from 34% to about 50% in the total population.
Leftists engage in group think. They believe “group characteristics” are immutable. They are not. Support for protection of the right to bear arms among black Americans, is only 24 percent at the moment. In 1993, it was 18%. That is a 33% increase, and it is likely to keep rising.
From 1993 to 2015, the violent crime rate fell to nearly half of what it had been.
My assumptions about what is happening do not rely on identity politics, but rather on the changes in where people obtain their information. From at least the middle 1960s, the information flow has been controlled by ideological “progressive” elitists that have pushed for ever more infringements on the Second Amendment. With the repeal of the “Fairness Doctrine” and the rise of the Internet, that oligopoly on information flow has been fractured. The “high water mark” for increasingly stringent restrictions on gun ownership and sale was 1993.
The left and the media cartel can no longer set the terms of the debate on what is important about the access to defensive weapons in America. The information revolution reached those most concerned first. Most gun owners at the time were white males. That same information about guns is now reaching women and minorities, both of which have fast growing numbers of gun owners.
The desire to disarm the population is strong among government and media elites. But the desire for self defense is stronger, innate, and hard to program out of people, unless you have full control of the education system, the media, and the culture.
All of those venues are now being contested by limited government advocates.
The future is up for grabs, and the disarmists are not pre-ordained to win.

UCLA law professor Adam Winkler came on The Young Turks this week to talk about how the NRA was founded as a gun control organization specifically, to control Black people owning guns.
