One killed in US military jet crash in England

NEAR REDMERE, UK (RNN) - Authorities said one person died after a military jet crashed in England Wednesday, The Guardian reported.

A U.S. Navy F-18 crashed four miles from RAF Mildenhall in Suffolk, and emergency services were dispatched to the scene in a rural area.

Unless I missed it, the article in the link says one person died, but didn’t way if it was the pilot.

Still holding out hope the pilot ejected in time.

This is not to say that if a UK civilian was killed that is therefore trivial - it is not.

From the Navy Times story:

“The jet was returning from a rotational deployment to the Middle East when it failed to rendezvous for a mid-air refueling, British newspaper Daily Express said.”

Comment following the article says there is a video showing the pilot is alive. Fog of war or never know what to believe.

Yep, early reports are often inaccurate these days. It’s more important to get the story out asap than ensure facts and accuracy.....one of the MANY things wrong with news media these days IMO.

I can’t imagine the pilot’s fast paced terror knowing failure to refuel brought imperative to guide the aircraft with certainty to the safest place for crash landing.
