Cruz Wins North Carolina Statewide Tea Party Caucus

Groups Now Coalesce to Support the Texas Senator for President

HOUSTON, Texas – In unprecedented fashion, Senator Ted Cruz won the North Carolina Tea Party Constitutional Caucus, receiving just over 50 percent of the vote from conservative activists across the state. Dr. Ben Carson took second place, while no other candidate received more than 4 percent.

Hoping to strengthen the influence of conservatives in North Carolina, Tea Party groups decided to hold a statewide caucus to determine whom the groups would collectively support in the primary. Cruz’s victory over the weekend signals that conservatives will coalesce around the Texas senator, rather than split their vote among various candidates.

“North Carolina is an important state for the Republican primary, and our campaign will continue to build our team in the Tar Heel state to ensure our campaign is competitive,” said Cruz. “The Tea Party will be instrumental in helping to organize and elect a strong constitutional conservative and I am honored to receive their support.”

Cruz has long been a favorite of Tea Party groups, and the results from the caucus this weekend continue to show that he remains the activists’ choice for president.

Trump is what is keeping Cruz from really catching fire.

This is just HS! Cruz may be “winning” the Tea Party Poll, but he’s nowhere in the general polling in North Carolina

Take a look! http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2016/president/nc/north_carolina_republican_presidential_primary-3491.html

In this RCP polling average, Cruz is an also ran. He needs to figure out how to be a part of the Trump Administration where he can continue to give us the kind of leadership for which he’s become noted (or stay in the Senate and help get rid of the GoPee trash there).
I’d be pleased to have Ted for president, but I simply don’t see it happening. All this “hyperventilating” about Cruz being the “heir apparent” to Trump’s voters when he fails is simply political hyperbole. Saying it, doesn’t make it so!

Ted Cruz is the only conservative in the race.

I hate to say it, but all this really shows is how out of step the tea parties are with the base of the GOP.

The base is going for Trump big time, while a few right-leaning tea party politicos are going for Cruz. Goes to show that the TPs are more establishment than they are outsider.

Maybe so. Because I would vote for him if Trump was not in race.

However, if Trump never even hinted at running, who would be the front runner today? It would be Jeb or Rubio!

It is Trump who has awakened this country to what is really going on in politics and media.

It is for this reason that I believe God has a hand in Trump’s candidacy. That does not mean he will win, but Trump has surely shaken the Establishment - big time. And I think it is headed to all Western countries.

Exactly. Cruz basically appeals to the same personality and temperament of people that Jeb does - politicos and the wheeler-dealer types, it’s just that Cruz’s are a bit more to the Right than Bush’s are.

As far as appeal to the actual rank-and-file who don’t spend their Saturdays at political caucuses - Cruz doesn’t really have it.

Ever notice on this forum the Cruz supporters all tend to build up their candidate and the Trump supporters all tend to tear down anyone but theirs

I you look at everything, Trump, Cruz and Carson are the only ones making a move right now.

Trump dropped in the polls and then recovered. That’s ‘yuge’. It means his votes are more solid than before. Cruz is polling a bit better and could move into 3rd place soon if Rubio continues to sputter. Carson has been polling stronger in general lately, and is the best mover over the last month.

*************

There have been some polls that support that position. There were two which found
about 13% would go to Cruz the rest somewhere else.

Ab Stain finished 5th, ahead of Carly, Bobby, and Marco.

I think I’ll send him a check.

Trumpeteers have thrown Reagan under the bus, they just threw GWB under, next up...the tea party. So apparently if you are a tea party voter and don't like trump, then by default you are pro-establishment? You guys are losing...lost...it.

Let’s face it - over the last few years, we have witnessed the hackification of the tea parties. They’re just more of the same old same old, why is why all their elected officials “go Washington” as soon as they get there.
