The Iraqi’s were only fielded the “Monkeymodel” variant. No DU armor or advanced fire control systems.
Regards,
I thought it’s target acquisition systems and reactive armor were still classified.
“I thought its target acquisition systems and reactive armor were still classified.”
As another Freeper pointed out, they got the export version, not the one used by our Army. (This is a surprise because when Obama originally mentioned it, his plan was to leave all the tanks there for Iraq. Apparently, that didn’t happen, but then we gave some of our old ones, full-up versions, to Egypt, before the Muslim Brotherhood president was thrown out.)
I never worked on target acquisition or reactive armor. (It would be outside the scope of what I did.) My division built all the electronics for the tank, but that isn’t to say somebody else wasn’t building kits that got installed later by the Army. None of the stuff we built was either cutting-edge or classified. It seems unlikely, given my understanding of the support infrastructure, that there was any classified material on-board. But, then, I never got to see it in the field. In general, classified material would need to be removed before the maintenance techs I knew got their hands on it; unless they had clearances and a secure facility, which I never heard of.
