Right.

This about Obama sticking his finger in America’s eye, imposing Islamic supremacy at first opportunity. I’d look into what percentage of new hires in federal prison are Muslims. They are there to proselytize.

The perception is that the decision was based on pandering to Muslims. Grassley is attempting to verify this by challenging prison officials to provide evidence of their stated reasons for discontinuing the use of pork products.

I have a hard time believing that prisoners’ least favorite pork products would be sausage and bacon. Unless the prison is sourcing those from a really low bidder who supplies unseasoned, flavorless products. Most pork is pretty flavorless without herbs and spices, especially pork roast, IMO.

Personally, I think prison food should be nutritious and prepared in the same manner as pet kibble, so that it can be dispensed from 40 pound sacks. It could even include pork byproducts.
The point of prison is to make it so that someone doesn’t want to be there or ever return.
I can think of nothing more monotonous than kibble for the entire period of the perp’s sentence.

I’ve known a few nation of islam style “muslims” who would badmouth pork but wouldn’t turn down things like bean soup with ham or bacon in it.

I’d love to see the survey stats. They could be skewed by a loud minority who don’t want pork.

I wonder if they are measuring average, median, or something like mode.

I’m pretty sure bacon is favored by a lot of people.

Right now, Texas has a vast number of wild hogs. They are overrunning the place and destroying large tracts of farmland.

However, they also represent an opportunity.

Why not round up hundreds of thousands of them, feed them hog chow with antibiotics and anti-parasite drugs for a couple of weeks, then butcher them, cook and can the meat in 55 gallon drums. Feed the poor.

As bizarre as it sounds, something similar is being done with the surfeit of deer in some of the northern states. So lots of poor people are now eating venison in shelters.

I actually have been saying for a long time there should be no meat of any kind in prison. And no lifting weights.

They come out stronger and more able to bash my head in?

No thanks.

Doesn’t matter. Muslims don’t even like to be around pork.

On the show Orange is the New Black prisoners started claiming they were Jewish in order to get Kosher Meals. As other inmates noticed what was happening the demand for Kosher meals - which cost more- caught the attention of the Suits.

They brought in a Rabbi to ask questions to determine if the people were really Jewish. The guy that ran the prison worried about lawsuits and religious freedom. A nun in prison was even asking for Kosher meals.

This ends with people having to actually convert in order to get the Meals.

The food issue really a nightmare to deal with in a prison population. I wish people actually had to suffer while in prison. You eat the slop we make and that’s it!

Sort of a different topic but ...

Notice how plentiful pork seems to be. Recall just a couple of years ago the furor as the pork industry was experiencing virus attacks in young porkers, thus causing pork prices to increase.

Fast forward ...

Notice how poultry prices and egg prices have risen due to the poultry industry experiencing virus attacks in young chicks.

If one were not permanently wearing tinfoil hats, one might suspect collusion or conspiracy.

Several years ago, it was mad cow ...

More tinfoil -- there was small hole in the hat and some more 'conspiration' seeped in.

***pork has been the ‘lowest-rated food’ by inmates for a number of years.***

Then serve them swill!

Reminds me of THE WIZARD OF ID in which the “spook” prisoner says to the jailer.. “Hey this swill is pretty good today!”

Guard tastes it and goes to the kitchen and says to the cook...”You ninny! This is dishwater!”

In the meantime the Chicoms are stealing the largest pork processor in the country and moving the jobs to China. Maybe Trump will care about that.

If you are referring to Smithfield, I stopped buying their hams right after that debacle was announced.

Expensive? I can buy a pork loin roast for $1.99/lb. all day.
What cut of beef even comes close to that.
