A large amount of scaffolding collapsed Friday outside a building under construction in Houston, causing multiple injuries, a city agency said.
Video from the scene showed piles of metal lying on the ground outside a roughly seven-story building. The collapsed scaffolding appeared to cover a large section of a city block.
Houstons Office of Emergency Management reported the injures from the collapse, which happened near the corner of Crawford and Preston streets an area not far from Minute Maid Park, the home of Major League Baseballs Houston Astros.
People were urged to steer clear of the area so emergency vehicles could get in and out.
It was not immediately clear if there are any fatalities as a result of the incident or if anyone was still trapped. Video, however, did show at least person being carried on a stretcher to get medical help.
The Houston Fire Department reported that the first crews arrived within three minutes after the collapse was reported around 11:10 a.m. (12:10 p.m. ET).
Within about 30 minutes, more than 30 units including several heavy rescue personnel were already on-site.
Firefighters could be seen walking around the scene, in some cases getting underneath the rubble of scaffolding.
Six injured and taken to hospital thus far. Concern is for pedestrians who may be under all this mess as well as for a secondary collapse.
Prayers for all who are affected by this .
...meanwhile, Houston Mayor Anise Parker is occupied more important issues, such as guaranteeing the right of all people to use the restroom of whatever gender they feel they are that day...
... and filing lawsuits against pastors of Bible-believing churches for uh, believing the Bible.
The author failed to note how many tons of scaffolding collapsed
I’ve heard it was a city block long and 7 stories high. Not sure how much that would weigh though.
It is believed a car hit the scaffolding and then left the scene
It sounds as if words no longer have meanings:
“Within about 30 minutes, more than 30 units including several heavy rescue personnel were already on-site.”
Why do I care how much the rescue personnel weigh?
Professional scaffold builder here, to include such; in an operational nuclear power plant. Suspended scaffolding above the suppression pool (moat) being built as well.
The vehicle strike makes some sense as to the catastrophic and contiguous collapse of the scaffold system in place.
I’ve been scratching my head in trying to determine the cause of the collapse from the confines of my living room. This is mainly due to the sideways collapse of the entire scaffolding mass.
I have experience with wooden, patent, and tube and knuckle styles of scaffolding; to include shoring systems.
Reckless and negligent vehicular homicide (should there be fatalities) would be a serious and appropriate charge.
The use of “heavy” in that sentence does not refer to anyone’s weight...

Most likely an Illegal alien.
My thoughts exactly or a Teen.
Any transgender workers hurt? The Houston mayor is concerned.
I sure hope there are no fatalities or serious injuries.
Hope no one died and prayers for all. I wonder if in the rubble they will look for the union label, or maybe this was erected by some of that skilled labor south of the border.
Fortunately, it looks like that scaffold wasn’t loaded w/ brick or that would have been a real catastrophe.
I vote illegal or Black from one of Sheila’s nearby wards. Suspect most of them working on the construction project are illegals, it was near downtown and way more illegals as well as Blacks drive in that area during that time of the day. Won’t see so many teens driving there, not in that particular part of the city and it was mid-morning. Teens that aren’t in school are still in bed.
Last I heard there were six workers pulled out with non-life threatening injuries. But numerous people were still trapped beneath it. Firefighters say a second collapse is probable.
