Gov. McAuliffe signs executive order on gun control measures [Virginia]

Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe is outlawing the open carry of guns in some state-owned buildings and pushing for tighter gun control measures.

McAuliffe signed an executive order Thursday at the Capitol setting up a task force aimed at more robust prosecution of gun crimes. The order also establishes a statewide tip line to report gun crimes, and orders state police to request a trace of every gun involved in a crime in Virginia.

U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine and Attorney General Mark Herring joined the governor, along with parents of victims killed in gun-related crimes. That included Andy and Barbara Parker, the parents of Alison Parker, who was shot and killed in August.

McAuliffe has been an outspoken advocate for tighter gun control measures, but has failed to get those efforts past the Republican-controlled General Assembly.

He just opened up state buildings as a shooting range ... not only banning open carry, but CCW.

Don't state buildings have cops guarding them?

They voted for him...they deserve him.

He won narrowly over an ill-funded (by the GOP) good conservative, Ken Cuccinelli.

You may wanna move then...any state that would put that snake in office, is questionable at best.

You could open-carry in the Statehouse last week?

Some do, but I haven't seen cops guarding DMV buildings, ABC stores, etc. - this is T-Mac's reasoning:

The ease of access to firearms by criminals and others intent on harm is even more concerning when viewed in light of the general open access to our public facilities. Every day, over 60,000 Virginians report to work in state government buildings across the Commonwealth to provide services to their fellow Virginians. Our citizens rely on open access to these facilities to address their personal and professional needs. Whether it is to incorporate a business, renew a driver’s license, apply for a job, seek a permit, or just to attend a public hearing, our government facilities are essential to allowing our citizens access to their government representatives. Allowing open carry in these facilities by individuals who may not lawfully possess a firearm exposes our state employees and fellow citizens to unnecessary risk.

If we continue to let these people rule us via executive orders, then that is what they are going to do.

This is the heart of the matter. These commie Governors are going to follow their leader's example and issue executive orders that violate the Constitution.

We need to rise up as a people and oppose this tyranny or we're gone. There's not time to get Trump in or any other opposition, it has to be now. If you know any NRA top level or Tea Party in VA, then alert them. Contact state representatives and get everyone you know to join in. I know we feel emails and phone calls are useless but if we discard all our weapons to fight these rulers, they automatically win.

“Some do, but I haven’t seen cops guarding DMV buildings,...”

In Sterling in NOVA, the DMV has a cop guarding it. I asked him about it, and he said they requested it after some altercations over meeting the ID requirement for the drivers license.

Sterling has a large illegal alien population.

State law clearly defines where CHP holders can carry. McAwful’s restrictions on open carry will be challenged. The restrictions are not to ban guns from places, but on who can carry in those places. Hence, these new rules are discriminatory. Open carry is for all, but permits are required for concealed carry. He will have nothing come of his attempts to ban concealed carry in those places unless he can change the laws.

Yup. This is T-Mac (carpetbagger, Clinton crony & smarmy weasel) jumping on the Leftist’s all-politics-all-the-time ‘gun control train’. The Left doesn’t care if the track ahead is clear or not or even if there is one, they just want to spew smoke & blow the whistle so all the Leftists think they’re going somewhere ahead of 2016. That being said, if they could confiscate, they would, but that’s not possible right now - they’re working on it.

They’d cancel it anyway once the vast majority of traces go back to “clean” family members of the criminal and the ‘disparate impact’ becomes evident.

Though connecting guns through from the legal seller to the illegal owner is a sound idea.

Doesn’t matter...a win is a win. Trump has exposed these Republicans for who they are....wimps! No fight in them except when they attack conservatives. The election shouldn’t have even been close.

[[McAuliffe signed an executive order Thursday]]

Look for more and more states to sign executive orders- claiming a ‘pressing need to do so’, or ‘imminent threat’ as their excuse- so they can bypass the legislators to get it through uncontested- like they did I ny

Slippery slope, FRiend. Private sales should never be traced, IMO. That's why they're private. Truth is that most firearms used by criminals are stolen. Period.

And that may very well be how stolen guns and the guys who stole them get caught.
