ERWIN, TN (WJHL) CSX announced Thursday morning it plans to reduce train operations at it Erwin, TN yard. Around 300 contract and management employee will be impacted.
The decision, according to a press release, was due to significantly reduced coal traffic through the region.
CSX plans to close a locomotive service center, a project and car shop and eliminating switching operations at the Northeast Tennessee yard.

That’s more an issue of coal shipments falling as utilities take more advantage of (now) cheap natural gas for electric generation plants.
Would have thought they would have been more likely to spin off most of the old CC&O into a short line and sell it, based on their past history.
I love Erwin. That tiny place can’t afford to lose 300 jobs.

Gillette, Wyoming is a beautiful city. It sits in the Powder River Basin. Many thousands of coal jobs, and coal relater jobs, are going to be lost. All because of one d**khead.
