Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzman May Have Hid in Mexican Mountains: Sources
NBC News ^ | OCT 14 2015 | MARK POTTER and JONATHAN DIENST

U.S. drug agents intercepted cellphone signals suggesting fugitive drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman was hiding at a ranch in the rugged Mexican mountains, three sources told NBC News.

However, when Mexican marines raided the ranch in the Sierra Madre range last week, all they found were cellphones and clothing they believed may have belonged to the crime boss, according to sources.

Mexico's Attorney General's Office via AP A week on from the raid, hope that El Chapo was surrounded has since faded and the trail is feared to have gone cold again, one of the sources said.

El Chapo furthered his status as one of the world's most notorious crime figures when he escaped the maximum security Altiplano prison in July — the second time he has escaped such a facility. Last week a pilot who allegedly flew him to safety was arrested.

U.S. authorities say Chapo's Sinaloa cartel is the biggest supplier of illicit drugs to the U.S. and that they are doing everything they can to help Mexican officials catch the kingpin.

I want to know why, in light of Guzman's death threat and in light of the absolute fact in 2007 Obama received Secret service protection in MAY !! and here we are almost November and Donal Trump, drawing monster crowds is not Yet receiving Secret Service Protect even after Trump has repeatedly requested it!! What the H3ll is going on here? Is it race? is it republican? This is an outrage!!

It is a very rugged and a hard place to travel and see anything. El Chapo has a big army of narco terrorists. The campesinos have been bought, killed or run off. The drug trade in this area goes back a long time. If they can catch him, more power to them but military and police can be frightened and/or bought. It’s a high risk occupation to confront the narco gangs.

when Mexican marines raided the ranch in the Sierra Madre range last week

Found a film clip of the raid, which was led by Capt. Alphonso Bedoya. Guzman looks a lot like Humphrey Bogart

When you are in the Sierra Madre you don’t mess around with Fred C. Dobbs.

At one time I started thinking about this place:

Lake Chapala: In the little towns along the north shore of Mexico’s largest freshwater lake, you’ll find the largest community of U.S. retirees outside the U.S. This lakeside area in the country’s central highlands, just 45 minutes south of Guadalajara, is already home to about 10,000 full-time expatriates from the U.S. and Canada (and nearly twice that many during winter months). The towns on the lake—particularly those along the north shore—are comfortable enclaves with cobblestone streets, Spanish-colonial architecture, and some of the world’s best weather. The average year-round temperature is a spring-like 68° F, and a tight-knit expatriate community provides all manner of comfortable amenities and support to retirees—from garden restaurants, to dog-training services, to bridge clubs and yoga classes

All the narco mafia guys hide on ranches in remote places when on the run-you’d think los marinas-and the DEA-would have that figured out, since it has been going on for decades, and a ranch like that is a set in every novela about the narco mafia on Telemundo.

In the mid-80’s, my 1st husband, the cub and I drove to the mountains in Michoacán on our vacation, staying in a hotel built in the 16th century, which became a favorite place.

When we were visiting a big lake there, a guy had a telescope set up near the water, aimed at the opposite shore. He sat in a lawnchair with a cashbox beside him, holding a sign offering to let you use the telescope to see the ranch compound one of the bigtime narcos-I forget which one. We paid the 2-3 pesos and took a look-it was a fabulous spread-huge hacienda, cattle grazing in the front, a 8-10 foot high stucco wall all around it, a gate fit for a medieval fortress-and 6-7 guys with rifles pacing back and forth. Apparently, nothing has changed since then...

It is not prudent to do so, since an untold number are in the pay of the narco mafia-that hasn’t changed since the 80’s, either...

Perhaps they’re the best of a “pretty rum lot.” Everyone knows the army is compromised, likewise the Federales. No one down there is untouched, but the Mexican Navy/Marines may be the best they’ve got. I can’t help but notice that they do all of the big busts.
