I don't doubt Russia is bombing anti government rebels. I also don't doubt that from a Russian geopolitical point of view, if Assad falls, with Turkey already muzzie, ISIS has as clear path into Russia. And one of those countries on the coast coincidentally is Ukraine. Iran faces the same threat.
Funny thing is I played enough Risk over the years to realize you don't defend your country at your shoreline, you defend it as far away from your shoreline as possible.

I think most of the secular rebels have given up and they’re on their way to Germany, leaving just Nusra Front and ISIS.
