Important parts of our two great political parties seem bent on demonstrating that their parties are incapable of governing coherently.

What do you think? A bit of an Establishment perspective?

But I've long said that it might be very good for the country if both major parties imploded.

Neither party wants to GOVERN.

Both parties want to RULE.

There are a few republicans who can be excluded from that blanket statement, but only a very few.

Well, most of them seem to be socialist leftwads in both parties, so the author is probably right.

"A bit of an Establishment perspective?"

Absolutely.

And I like Barone, but he's clearly a denizen of the corrupt cesspool that is DC.

He needs to leave his charts and graphs to get an understanding of the virulent attitude the country has for all things DC.

Political Correctness cannot help but eliminate true leadership from a culture, since leadership requires courage.

Perhaps Barone is looking to be invited to a weekend at Bernie’s.

Next to the phrase “the masses” I hate “to govern.” They are not sent to Washington to govern us. They are sent to Washington to REPRESENT us, we govern ourselves. And that is the problem, they are there to represent us, to carry out OUR wishes, and to oversee those necessary services that the govt can only provide (such as defense) in accordance with our wishes, and to make decisions for us as we would make them, always always always remembering always they are only stewards of our money, and have no business spending our money on anything but those govt services necessary to maintain a functioning and free society. This is the problem. They need to get away from the idea they are there to govern. They are not. The only governing they should be doing is governing the civil service.

Low-information Michael Barone evidently hasn’t waken up to the following concerning political parties. Given that one of the very few powers that the states delegated to the feds, expressly via the Constitution, to regulate an aspect of INTRAstate commerce was to decide policy for the US Mail Service (1.8.7), Mr. Barone actually needs to ask himself the following question.

How many political parties does it take to run the US Mail Service?

I say none.

In fact, if the states ever get around to repealing the ill-conceived 17th Amendment, the repeal amendment ought to include a provision prohibiting political party support for federal lawmakers and presidents.
