SAN FRANCISCO A Navy veteran is suing after what his lawyer describes as a 16-pound pine cone fell and crushed his skull in San Francisco.
The San Francisco Chronicle reports (http://bit.ly/1juNiqP ) that Sean Mace is suing the U.S. government, the National Park Service, the Department of the Interior and San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park for $5 million.
Mace's attorney Scott Johnson says the veteran was relaxing under a non-native pine tree at the maritime park when the cone fell, causing an irreversible brain injury. Johnson says Mace has had two surgeries and requires a third.
The park has already fenced off the grove and added signs warning "Danger: Giant seed pod falling from tree."
Representatives from the U.S. attorney's office and San Francisco Maritime National Historic Park did not return requests for comment.
This is exactly why there should be no parks. Build more houses. It will be safer for sailors and will provide more housing to a housing strapped city.
Giant pine cone or a pin head?
Just call him CONEHEAD.................
Its a sign.....stay out of the giant bushes
That’s a pretty hefty pine cone.
“Non-native” = blame Columbus.
What if Newton had sued? Or, Eve, even.

Invasion of the Giant Pod People?
Sailors and dogs keep off the grass.
These trees supposedly produce the largest cones, but not up to 16 lbs.

A prime example of the need for more government protection, in the form of an agency to deal with this sort of danger.
Call it the “Pinecone Protection Program” or PPP and fund it aggressively.
There is simply no justification for these Pinecones having to land on the heads of people.
The new agency shall implement policies to create an unimpeded pathway for the cone to fall all of the way to the ground.
This program will require purchase of hundreds of acres, and demolition of hundreds of buildings.
“navy veteran” - what does that have to do with anything, except a very cheap attempt to tug some emotional strings?
Did his C.O. order him to sit under the “non native” pine tree?
WTF?
Tonight’s episode of The Streets Of San Francisco - When Pine Cones Kill.
Anyone who's consistently spent time walking and dodging incoming under huge, old trees thawing out after winter storms, especially ice storms, is not easily impressed by a 16 lb. pine cone landing on someone simply relaxing under the tree.
Hope the rookie recovers, though. Head injuries suck. A broken skull and hurt brain take their own sweet time to heal.
He’s not dead...’es PINING.
PINING I SAY !
“... I didn’t see anything! As far as I’m concerned, a coconut fell through the roof and hit you in the mouth...”
.
“Act of God” in legal parlance.
He hasn’t a leg to stand on.
.
Is he gay? Otherwise, he’s got no case.
The police investigated, sectioned off the crime scene, chalked the position of the victim, and arrested the suspected pine cone. What else do people expect from government?
