For the same reason the muzzies shaved Bergdahl: it’s a sign of weakness, surrender & shame.
Barry’s response was to order Bergdahl’s promotion, award of back pay and to send him on his way.

Because ISIS and the rebels all wear beards. The Syrian Army does not. It would be impossible for them to blend into the general population with a big shaggy beard that screams “I’m a rebel or I belong to ISIS!”
