Having done it several times before - for very different reasons - it is pretty easy. Pull the beard, and starting at one sideburn work shears along the contour of the jaw to shear it off like a fleece. That makes the follow up shave a whole lot easier.

You have to remember that the muslims are a pastoral people and know how to shear goats and sheep with a few passes and in big clumps. They shaved their beards with the same tools they use to shear their goat girlfriends.
