Watch: Man pulls knife on Border Police officers, who shoot him as he stabs officers outside Jerusalem’s Old City
New security footage was released Monday showing a dramatic stabbing attempt at the Damascus Gate of Jerusalem’s Old City Saturday that left three officers wounded.
The video shows a man sitting on the side of a walkway being guarded by Border Police, when he pulls a knife out of his back pocket and attempts to stab an officer, who manages to get away.
The attacker then tries to stab other officers, who quickly surround and kill him.

When are Jews finally going to call for the end of the Muslim occupation of Jerusalem? When are they going to end the Muslim Wakf control over the holy Temple Mount? I just don’t get it. The world is 99% against them anyway. What’s to lose?
For those who don’t have video access or just want a summary, this moves pretty fast:
At 0:52, the terrorist is sitting, and not an obvious or immediate threat.
At 0:53, the terrorist stands up,
and at 0:54 the terrorist stabs the first Israeli cop in the neck.
By 0:59, the terrorist is clearly down and dying, with several cops ready for any additional threats.
In the six seconds after the stabbing, there is clearly an emphasis on taking him down, with limited concern for collateral damage. The article says three cops were shot in the takedown, which does not surprise me watching the video.
There is a lesson about knife fights here. Besides “don’t bring a knife to a gun fight”, you need to remember that it doesn’t help to bring a gun to a knife fight unless you can deploy it in under two seconds. The Tueller Drill is a very tough situation, but I’m certain that most Israelis have thought that situation through, especially recently, and these cops knew how to respond.
Under the present emergency in Israel, wouldn’t it be a better policy to simply have soldiers hold any person under questioning at the point of a gun, especially if they are anywhere within Tueller range? The stabbings are proceeding at a tremendous rate and I believe every individual Jew has to assume that every Arab is an immediate potential threat.
The down side there is that drawing on someone actually is provocative. They would get more attempted stabbings, or suicide belts, or some other attack with that additional source of tension. I'm not sure of the right answer, and the answers I think are necessary (way beyond your suggestion) would not be politically correct.
