Russia has demanded an explanation from the UK about media reports that British pilots have been given the permission to attack Russian jets in Iraq.
Today, the military attaché at the British Embassy in Moscow was summoned to the Russian Defense Ministry, the Russian Defense Ministry press service said in a statement on Sunday.
He was handed a note with a request to provide official explanations on information, published in the British media, citing high-ranking sources in the Defense Ministry of the country, on alleged directives to use weapons against Russian aircraft in case of threat to their lives, received by Royal Air Force pilots, the statement read.
The British military attaché reportedly said that he had no information on the issue and would submit an official reply in the nearest future.
The Russian move came after a UK defense source told The Sunday Times that Royal Air Force (RAF) pilots had been reportedly given a clearance to shoot down Russian jets if they are endangered by them.

If everyone is actually fighting the jihadis, and the jihadis have no air force, there should never be ANY air combat. All aircraft should be friendly, and could not be mistaken for an enemy. Air traffic control should be the only issue.
The complexity and potential for air combat comes only from the nato plan to support some jihadis, and to use others. The Russian intervention has exposed a huge lie about what we and nato are actually up to over there.
I would certainly think they need an explanation. Good grief.
What can’t the damned Russkis understand about an order that says “If the Reds get in our combat operational space and present a threat to us, we will shoot them down”?
Seems like good old plain English to me.
"For all you chappies, don't start a fight, but if someone else does, you finish it."
Outstanding reply! You nailed it!
What threat are they? Shouldn’t they be on the same side?
Excellent point!
Why is the UK Jets protecting ISIS?
Do they really want defend these savages or are they looking to start a war with Russia?
Well IF the brits truly are fighting ISIS and the other moose-limb radicals, and not supporting them, then they have nothing to fear from them ‘red rooskies’. Guys like you really just can`t get over the cold war, can you?
They can`t help it, they`re stuck in the 80`s.
WW 2 was triggered by the British drawing a line they would never defend and knew it. The Brits got our ass into Europe twice for no other reason than their mouth was bigger than their gut.
Well the ‘need’ would be in their intent. Are those ‘chappies’ there to kill jihadies or help them? Those ‘rooskies’ sure do seem to be there to kill them, are the westies?
They have a right to ask that question. Being you know....they are doing more to protect our families then our own country.
For all the weakness and foolishness that can be found pretty much in everyone during that time, WW2 had to happen Because evil was on the rise and aggressive.
You nailed it!
So we and our allies are stuck between a rock and a very hard spot. Use our CIA supplied terrorists to take out Assad and risk war with Russia or let the value US dollar fall to practically nothing.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out. My bet is that Assad stays and Saudis do nothing. I think the Saudis are bluffing. But even if they are not bluffing the petrodollar give the House of Saudi entirely to much power over then USA. Better to end the deal now and get the pain over with.
They would have the same orders...
It’s also the same in the Navy’s of both..
This is typical Russian theater...
Just enjoy it...
BTW, the quotes on your FReeper page are awesome.
The Russian jets have been buzzing the RAF jaes in an unsafe manner.
