The original purpose of the Federal Government and Constitution was to protect American business from international trade and provide customs and tarrifs.
Our Constitution but especially the BOR protects individuals not businesses. Corporate rights are an extension of our individual rights but that is as far as it goes. Giving the federal government control of trade crossing the border was a revenue scheme and in no way was meant to be protection. In fact, our government was so dependent on the revenue that trade generated it went to war with some breakaway states to protect (see Walter Williams article).
