Donald Trump has spent only $2 million on his entire campaign. That’s brilliant.

It’s even better for Trump and worse for the others if you look at the asterisk-—Trump is measured THROUGH SEPTEMBER, everyone else through June.

Does he? I don’t know. So far, he’s called every shot right. Remember Romney’s “ground game” of computer-connected people-—that didn’t work at all?

Trump needs to start spend some money on a “ground game”.

Read this (on Drudge) Donald Trump plots his second act--Campaign manager Corey Lewandowski said Trump’s team likely would spend considerably more than $20 million on paid media later this year — “whatever it takes.” He said the spots would be “non-traditional,” saying the firm, which he and Trump declined to name, has never created political ads.

Central to the fall strategy is the release later this month of a book that will serve as a campaign manifesto. During the interview, Trump showed off the cover and title, “Crippled America,” and held up pages of the galleys, which he was editing by hand. “It’s actually the hardest I’ve worked on a book since ‘The Art of the Deal,’” he said, referring to his 1987 bestseller. “I don’t want to have a stupid statement in the book that people are going to say, ‘Hey, why did he say that?’ ”

BTW, just remembered this: Walker spent all sorts of money on one state in a “ground game” and couldn’t do squat. He spent money like it was water on people in IA, but with no measurable impact.

Like I said to the other poster, I don’t know. Walker supposedly had a huge “ground game” in IA and couldn’t do squat there. How much of this is effective and how much is people sitting in offices making calls to county chairmen? I honestly don’t know. I’ve never worked a primary in OH, and certainly not one in IA.

Again, not sure. All too often, those "paid staff" and "volunteers" don't do a whole lot.

The best "ground game" I saw was Bush 04. Rove had every volunteer with a map of the precinct with the GOP voters, Independents, all marked by house. We were all tapped into cell phones.

In 08, we were laughing at the Obama "ground game" here. It seemed to be completely chaotic and disorganized---and we got shellacked. So I don't know.

The main thing is that SO FAR this has been a totally different election, and it would be foolish to say you always have to do things the "same old way" to win, because clearly Obama did not do that. He ran a media heavy, Twitter/Facebook/Youtube heavy campaign that was very effective.

Ground game really good as long as you have people that vote for you.
You can only “get out” the voters that will vote for you.

Yes, I look at it this way
Candidate A at 17% has a "ground game" that gets 80% of his voters to the polls.

Candidate B at 32% has no "ground game" and has the typical 40% turn out. Which candidate wins? Candidate A.

0.4 x 32 = 12.8
0.8 x 17 = 13.6

This might be the only presidential campaign in history to post a profit.

Hmmmm, well I want to see Trump win so I like what you are saying, but I do worry. Voter fraud will be a problem this election and might (was) have been a problem last election too.

Are/were you a Presidential campaign manager?

Trump is likely fretting that he doesn’t have you on board. /s

Er, no. It rarely works that way in real life. And especially if someone is polling 6% at the polls, the likelihood of any "ground game" getting 80% supporters out is just not reasonable.

I've done a few stats in our "ground game" work in OH in 04 and 08.

They must not be counting transportation costs. I’d think he’s burned $2M on air travel alone.
